I would recommend the iPod (but im bias being a mac junkie :D) SUper simple to use, just plug it in and all the music is immediataly update and transfrerred none of this cut and paste malarkey! ;)
Plus with the iTunes software is is almost seamless and has little or no problems (iv never had a problem for two years with mine, but there are cases of problems but only in a small minority.)
Plus the battery is a built in rechargeable one, although this will decrease over time it took my iPod mini a year and a half (with about 6hours use per day) to die on me.

I was gonna suggest iPod but I see I was beaten to it several times.

If the full blown iPods are out of budget might I suggest the iPod Shuffle. It\'s like a mini iPod, doesn\'t hold anywhere near the number of songs as a full blown but it\'s incredibly tiny and quite inexpensive. My wife loves her Shuffle.

Thank you all for such wonderful ideas... I settled on the mp3, picked on up today I can\'t remember the maker but rated really high on several sites.. it has a screen to see the songs, rechargable battery, 1 gig memory, super speed download thing (not a techy here:D)

Ok, so I am adding a link if you want to take a look! This is the MP3 I got Torrie

its white and orange too! lol Plus it was on sale, for $89 I picked up the last two in the store, one for each girl.

I have a list of books that I am going to tuck into her book store gift card. I think that will be about perfect.

Really thank you all again. I know it is kind of silly to ask strangers for help for your own child, but you all had great fresh ideas!!!

Merry Christmas

Ginny A pleasure to help.
And never worry, sometimes you have to be like Blanche Dubois and rely on the Kindness of Strangers.(*)

If you want to get some stocking fillers, how about some things like little hair accessories, brooches (very trendy at the mo - at least in the UK), chokers that sort of thing.

The most perfect gift that I can possibly recommend is this:

I\'ve never met a single soul who doesn\'t love Calvin and Hobbes. Those who have never read it invariably say \'I\'ll take a quick look\' and are still there scanning through hours later.

The best and most charming comic shorts ever, in a huge and luscious triple tome, suitable for all ages. There will never be a more perfect gift.

Oh, and Torrie is gonna get beaten up in the playground for not conforming and having an iPod. Just thought I should warn you!

A man after my own heart!

Bet it\'s not available in the UK? If it is I will have to go and kick Mrs finn up the butt and tell her she does have to buy me a crissie pressie after all:D

It\'s certainly available in the UK. Has been for a while, and at a very reasonable 60 quid at Amazon.co.uk.

If that sounds pricey bear in mind it is absolutely gigantic (each book is about 35cm x 35cm x about 4 cm wide) and weighs about a ton. You can\'t actually read with a book on your lap for too long or it cuts off the blood supply to your legs completely!

More great ideas!!! Gosh guys I have a budget to keep! lol The jewelry is a great idea, I have gotten her a couple pair of earrings, I have to be careful what I get her she has horrible metal allergies, if it contains even a trace of nickel she blisters and welts :(

Johnny Cash, we actually have a couple already, I have been downloading music from the Internet *(Thanks Finn;))* in preparation for her MP3 I got.

Oh and thanks to you all, my Hubby will be getting a MP3 player as well

Speaking of Hubby, He has been collecting Calvin and Hobbs for years we have all of the books, but not the nice boxed set. I looked into it when it first came out and it was very expensive. Not sure how much it is now, but Will probably not get that one.

I had this visual of Mr. Finn, kicking Mrs. Finn in the butt...then of Mrs. Finn, beating him to a bloody pulp with a rolling pin.... OUCH :p

Thanks again,
Gin

A pair of socks. With someone elses name on them.

Or how about hundreds of lizards? Girls like swarms of things right?
