Luna wolves paint scheme

am going to be making a pre-heresy luna wolves army that is accurate to the HH books.

been thinking about paint schemes (luna wolves are pearl/off white if my memories correct), had a few goes on dummy models and this is what i came up with:

1. black undercoat
2. 50/50 bleached bone / graveyard earth
3. bleached bone
4. 50/50 bleached bone / skull white
5. skull white (but more than just a highlight)

any thoughts or advice welcome.

Didn\'t they start off mid-grey and change to the pearl off-white when they were renamed Sons of Horus?

originally i thought so and the book covers seem to agree but in the actual books, if im right, the luna wolves are pearl then the sons of horus are more grey

?i think?

In the collected visions horus heresy book it shows the luna wolves were a whitey/grey. with black shoulder pad trim. where as the Sons of horus had the pale green armour. If your doing a pre-heresy luna wolves based on the books will we see Abiddon, tordaggen, little horus, loken and cruze by any chance?

I was thinking of doing a pre heresy death guard, or even the death guard who escape to terra headed by garro.

Though it would also be fun to convert some of the Emperors children characters eidolon and his hammer sound fun

thanks for clearing the colour scheme up.

want to try and make it a playable army so gonna do the main characters after practise but was going to start with locasta squad with the final model to do being nero vipus.

then the other troop will be hellebore squad (before jubals unfortunate turn!)

would love to but my sculpting ability is no where near that good yet (unfortunately!)

maybe when i can do him justice, a nurgle infested jubal would be a great project!

or a solen decius as i have just read flight of the eisenstein!

Yea a turned decius would be cool or a turned grulgor, i have just finished the flight to lol, a turned jubal would be cool. Yea some of the characters might be difficult to sculpt with the elaborate armour etc. Though i think you should do loken after nero vipus he seems the least complex to convert. Get some WIP\'s up soon will b cool

yea thats a good point.

had thought about using a dark angels head (with the hair) for loken as he had blonde hair i think.

as u say i dont think his armour was particularly ornate but perhaps someone could shed light on this?

From what i recall he had standard mk iv plate, nothing to extravagant, maybe to make him stand out a little more give him some \'oath of moment\' papers. Yea i think loken had long hair, duno if it was blonde though cos cthonians had dark hair, though im a little unsure. we all know abaddons hair lol cos its that damn awful topknot. i think when i finally return to painting il make a eidolon (hate the character but he has a hammer :D) and garro\'s 70 death guard (maybe if funds allow) though i would like to make the mournival who knows though, gota get back painting first

the new chapter masters has a guy with a hammer for eidolon (though i agree, the character is not the nicest)

for abaddon am going to use a topknot from the chaos sprue as abadons model one is just too big for me personally.

Yea because also while abaddon was loyal he wore power armour as many thought he was too large in build to fit in terminator. So using the existing one wouldnt fit with the fluff. Yea i was thinking of using the chapter master with the hammer, though i may convert him from plastic sprues maybe using a terminators thunder hammer, though i havent gone into the design yet just a few little ideas, need to test my arm out first make sure i can paint still then il think about a few projects. yea i really dont like eidolon in the books and i loved it when tarvitz upstaged him when holding istvaan. have you any WIP\'s yet?

PS Actually the chapter master from the box set could be perfect as it has the wing on the shoulder as the emperors children did, maybe add some hair just have to search for eidolons description again

change of plan

am getting the forgeworld red scorpion sets to tie in with the fluff of mk IV armour so going to wait till they arrive (hurry up santa lol)

any more thoughts of other pre-heresy conversions?

was thinking the emperors champion would be a good starting point for nathaniel garro and libertas?

Yea those red scorpians are very nice and should look good due to the armour. Just reading fulgrim at the moment and some of the iron hands sound like they would be ood conversions. But im gona keep my mind focused at the moment Eidolon and Lucius from the Emperors children are on the list as well as Garro (though my idea is to have his 70 loyalist marines so this will include voyen and the rest) also an idea is qruze. Then il start thinking of others. The emperors champion sword arm i mite use as its quite long, il jus fill the middle bit, will have to look soon. And then give my arm a try out see how i am at painting (i had a car crash an basically ripped it too shreds 7months ago but i can try)

geez, an accident like that cant be easy to get over and hope everything is ok.

which one was voyen again, the apothecary?

am also reading fulgrim but finding it a little harder to get into n the characters arent inspiring me to convert as much the other books.

If you want good looking and relatively easy Mk IV conversions try looking for a tutorial by a guy called Doghouse. I don\'t think there are any on CMoN but I have a link to the thread on Bolter and Chainsword. Unfortunately they are changing servers at the moment but I\'ll post it up when they\'ve finished.

Yea the accident is old news but it was pretty crazy (7 broken bones, 3 being clean snaps in my arm the others a rib, collarbone, back an a neck bone) but it was my arm that took most of the damage.

i should be good to paint as i can write again so it will just take a few practice models before doing anythin really good, shame as i have some real nice models to paint.

Yea fulgrim is quite vague compared to the others theres no major characters to really identify with.
Yea voyen is the apothacary, if doin the death guard who are loyal then i would have all the characters described, decius etc

the bolter and chainsword link would be really useful thanks.

for the helmets gonna pick up a black templars sprue and maybe try to convert a cpl of world eater heads as the helmets are pretty good.

cleezy - i normally try a dummy model paint first, u know to test colours etc, try one of those and post it. would b nice to see some of ur work when u get chance

gonna b postin another deathwing termie soon as im holding myself back on the wolves till i have the right pieces to use
