Love - The Beatles are back...

...Sort of.

But it sounds pretty good to me, and I\'m not even a huge Beatles fan. Some sweet redone versions on there for sure, and a few less good ones, but in all I\'m rather impressed.

Would be very interested to read up a bit on how the Martins went about gathering all the stuff together to make this too.

Anyone else horrified by or loving it?

\'LOVE\' sees The Beatles back catalogue being reworked by the original fifth Beatle Sir George Martin and his son Giles.Given free rein by surviving Beatles Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney, the album is a completely new take on original Beatles material and also forms part of the soundtrack to the Cirque du Soleil/Beatles production of the same name. It is also presented in 5.1 surround sound, a first for any Beatlesrecording.

And don\'t let the Cirque du Soleil thing put you off!

Ahh, thanks!

I\'m not a Beatles fan and probably won\'t listen to this, but I love knowing this type of music related trivia (that is, trivia to me, since I\'m not a Beatles fan - I suppose it\'s not trivia to those who are :)).

Can\'t tell if I;m horrified or not. Can\'t hear what they\'ve done to the tracks.

I\'m a huge Beatles Fan........being named after one, and my parent\'s listening to all the original albums, made me a fan.

I hope they haven\'t screwed around with them too much. Wouldn\'t want the younger generation thinking that it\'s what the originals sound like.

Honestly, the Beatles were okay, but I don\'t get this amazing idolization of them. Lots of other musicians were very influential during that period, they just got a lot of press. I especially loathe Boomers who won\'t shut up about how music died after the Fab Four stopped making records. Guess what, they were just guys with guitars, good musicians not tiny gods who walked the earth.

It\'s a timing thing NSA.
The Beatles were a cultural phenomenon.
It\'s like the book \"Stranger in a Strange Land.\" Nice book and all, but what\'s the big deal? It all depends on the time.

p.s. Looking for what this was all about, I found that the Beatles albums are being released on CD for the first time as they originally appeared in the USA.
Apparently they were changed for US release, contrary to the wishes of the artists, but now it\'s a way to sell to the nostalgic boomers who want to hear the music the way they did as kids.
It\'s \"Meet the Beetles\" dammit! not \"With the Beetles\"!:)

Arent half the Beatles dead? ???

Well, yes, even if you take into account that Stu Sutcliff has been dead for years, and the original drummer\'s carreer has been dead since he left, yes 3 of the 6 Beetles are dead.

As for this - MEH.

NPR did a big ol\' piece during \"All Things Considered\" about this, including an interview with Sir George (or Giles... or both... can\'t quite remember.) It sounded fairly interesting with the changes and combinations. I\'ll likely never see it, since Cirque du Soleil is way too expensive for a mortal like me.

It begins with the opening chord of \"Hard Day\'s Night\".... amazingly recognizable.

The beatles were true trailblazers in the use of electric guitars - even beating (Sir) Jimi Hendrix to the 1st intentional recorded use of feedback on a song.

George Harrison was one of the best guitarists in the world, and was a true innovator.

John Lennon was a man of great vision with a God-like talent for lyrics.

Ringo Starr was a MUCH better drummer than anyone gives him credit for, and also narrated Thomas the tank engine :D

And Paul McCartney... Well - he\'s ok. But I don\'t think he\'s a nice as his PR makes out :p lol

The beatles - I salute you.

Also - does anyone ELSE feel the Beatles vibe in the David Bowie song \"changes\"?

...but don\'t forget that the Beatles are also directly responsible for Oasis ;)

I heard a review for this and the \"experts\" were particularly unimpressed saying that there was nothing new music-wise just that you hear more of the background chatter between the Beatles (don\'t know how much of this is true).

I wasn\'t around when the Beatles were staking their claim on world domination but I still recognise that they were important not just musically but in the way that they represented the cultural changes that Britain (and the rest of the world) were going through at that time - making them instant icons only ever superceded by the mighty Take That (or NKOTB for you American types) lol

ps Thomas The Tank Engine was never the same after Ringo left
