Least Favorite Bits.

What are some of your least favorite things about this hobby?

Myself, I find that cleaning and prepping the minis and models for painting is quite tedious. And of course priming is mostly pants as well--but this might be more because I\'m a traditionalist and do it with a brush!

Lining can also be tiring if you set yourself to do several minis in a row. Sometimes I\'m burnt out on lining after doing one!

How \'bout you?

Yeah, cleaning can be a pain, but I like sticking plastics together.

I guess I really dislike the bit between undercoat and finishing, weird huh?

Cleaning

Mould lines are the worst, I bloody hate them. And that\'s just on metal miniatures. Plastics drive me insane! Those lines just don\'t come off cleanly with a knife, there are always shavings left that stick to the miniature. And a file for a smooth finish? The damn plastic clogs the bloody file...

I hate mould lines.

Always enjoy assembly. Basing can be tedious on regiments, but it\'s not a pain. In fact, everything apart from mould lines is in some manner a pleasure.

#1: Prepping, for sure! Especially if there are bad mold lines/flash and you have to practically resculpt the damn thing. Mold lines across faces and fur/hair are the worst!

#2 would be shading washes. I can almost NEVER get the wash just the right consistency so I always have to clean up areas where the wash has dried along the sides of the depressed areas, leaving the deepest part still light! Grr argh  (this is a good opportunity for someone to give me a hint about using a surfactant...)

I don\'t mind prepping really, because I\'m usually modding the fig in some small way anyway. So as long as I\'m already cutting and filing a little more doesn\'t hurt.

The part I find the most tedious is finishing. I\'ll prep, under coat, lay on all my base colors, and maybe do a wash on the most prominent area. Then I get stuck. I might do a detail or two, but for the most part I get bored and move on to another mini. It is a shame because I have over a hundred minis that just need another hour or so before they\'re done, but I can\'t bring myself to go back to them. It\'s weird; probably has something to do with my ADD.

Or maybe because I sculpt/mod waaaay better then I paint I enjoy the first part and find the painting tedious?

THE BASE!

My God, the base!
I really, really hate it.
I\'m considering going the Rackham style, all black :)

For me the basing is fun.
The mold lines are HELL.
The thing that makes me most anxious about my figures is painting the NMM. It usually comes out looking OK, but I want it to be spectacular. Just have to keep plugging away at it, I guess.

I find basing indescribably dull, and although I love assembling and posing my figs, I hate superglue. It\'s messy as all hell.

Basecoating. I freakin\' hate it. It\'s so boring and that\'s usually the point where I\'ll lose interest in a figure.

I want to jump right away into shading, highlighting, freehand, etc.

i dont mind cleaning unless it\'s a particularly difficult model or there\'s loads. just started to get fed up with the tsunami models by the time i\'d finished (mostly because i was afraid i\'d snap something off). i love building and the first few coats of paint. i just get sort of fed up when i\'m still finishing the details off.

I really don\'t mind preping a mini, actually I kinda like it. Give me a chance for a first reading of the mini. It\'s at this stage that I think about color scheme and all.
The part I hate the most would be basing I guess, just hate having to do bases, especially since I do them before the mini, keeps me away from painting !!

I hate starting a mini. I also strongly dislike finishing them. That whole part in the middle isn\'t so great eaither...

Maybe this is why I paint one a year????

Cleaning off the mold lines... the first step to possible ruination of great figures... once the file or the knife goes to work there\'s no way back.

Priming is boring... but the first wash or ink layer on top of the basecoat...oooooooh, love it!:D:D:D
