Landing Pad for less than a tenner

I bought some spare bulk heads off ebay in order to make some more flat pack terrain as I don't have any space to store modular stuff.

I've started to make my own landing pad, not much to see at the moment, but hopefully I'll get some more done tonight. I don't know whether you can make it out but the pad is in two layers, the top layer will have triangles cut out to show the mesh that will be placed between these two layers. Just noticed my deisgn is pretty similar to the FW one which cost £85, but should come in at less than £10 to make :)

At the moment it looks really basic but will look a lot better with the mesh and rivets etc. Any other ideas on what I can include on it?

old necromunda bulkheads rule!!!!

add wiring, piping and panels. maybe have a panel open so you can see wiring and piping. also add piping and wiring....

And don't forget piping to connect the piping to the piping, otherwise the piping goes nowhere! :D

I may need some wires and some pipes!

A bit of progress, cut the holes out the top layer. The eagle eyed will notice that a couple of the triangles aren't quite as long as the rest. This is because on my last section I forgot to mark the margin at the bottom. I'd bloody measured it all, just forgot to draw the line! I'm now in the progress of making them all longer, which actually looks better. I had major RSI from cutting out the first lot so decided to leave it until tongiht before cutting the extra bit out the last three panels.

Any suggestions for colour scheme? I was thinking 'Ork Hide Shade' dry brushed with 'knarloc green' for the mesh sections, no doubt I'll need some yellow/black hazard stripes to fit in with the other Necromunda terrain.

looking good so far this maybe from the camera angle but where the triangle points meet in the middle looks uneven if so might be a quick fix to just put an octagon of plasticard over the centre piece so that the points are covered can't wait to see how it pans out as i'm tempted to steal the idea

Yeah, I'd cut out the sections for the bulk heads to sit flush before drawing my planning lines for the cut out sections. So I'd advised you to plan your design on the landing pad before cutting anything out lol. As I had done this I couldn't join up the points of the otagon correctly to find the centre as the flat edges were all a couple of mm different after cutting. I've already got a small hex cut out to go in the centre but that may still not fix the problem as some points will still be furtehr away from that too.

I'll have to find the centre and use a compass to draw a circle, then all points should meet that hopefully that will fix the wonkiness :) It's my first attempt and already made so many mistakes lol

Simple yet cunningly effective. So cunning,in fact, you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel...

"You wouldn't recognize a cunning plan if it painted itself purple and danced naked on top of a harpsichord singing 'Cunning plans are here again!'"

Always like watching cheap terrain ideas

you could always put a small circular or octagonal plate in the center to cover up the uneven triangles. (dare i say cunning and effective)

Looking spot on. For cheap pipes (more like free), different sized straws can do the trick. Drink straws, coffee stirring straws, etc. Even old ball point pen casings.

There was one guy who had a website dedicated to (mostly industrial themed) terrain made from found objects. If I can remember I'll post a link, or maybe someone else knows?

Ah, just remembered! http://ironhands.com/necro.htm

That site is a great time-sink. Tons of cool project ideas.

looking good so far, having good terrain to play on makes all the difference IMO. Also cheers mattsterbenz - that link has a lot of cool stuff

It's looking very good! It's amazing how such simple concepts can yield such good results.

Evergreen- the plasticard company- has a package of different sized rods and tubes that's pretty cheap and works for pipe.

Sorry for lack of progress, but I got side tracked by WoW lol. Thanks for that link, that terrain is great and has given me a lot of inspiration, I only hope this turns out half as good as that.

Does anyone know a good/cheap way of making some search lights, like the ones used to signal Batman? I know FW do some but I aint paying £10 each as I want one for each corner. I was thinking bottle cap with paperclip mesh over it, but the ideas not quite forming right.

I like the idea of some LED's but haven't got a clue about elctronics can I just wire them up or am I going to need transisitors etc (only thing I remember about circuits from school!). I do have one of those chunky cuboid batteries (12v?) but thats going to be a bit big to accomodate, will they run from an aa battery?

I'm definitely going to add some pipes but where, lol

you could always use the top off body sprays as the search lights and as for the electronics side pm chrome he's good at that sort of thing and would point you in the right direction
