Yeah, that blue is very nice, and a good conversion. Beakies make me smile. You're off to a good start. :)

I put the recipe I use in my log for you! :p
I just work the colours back and fourth till I'm happy. The secret is, I don't always go for realistic NMM, I go for eye catching. ;)

I saw that and i appreciate it! I'll give it a go, got an all nighter painting the kitchen and putting a new floor down for the baby coming, hopefully i'll get back using a small brush on monday!

Thanks! Normally I dont mind decorating, but the better half went through a period of every wall being either dark grey or deep purple, hellish to paint over!

OOOHHHH that is a pita! Why would you ever go back over those though!? Great colour choice!

Out of curiosity, how much time do you spend painting a day?

johnynoi

New member
Not very long! Might get a couple of hours when the girls go to bed, the days when I can paint whenever I want are long gone!

Haha I understand! :)
I usually try to sit down for at least 2 hours a day. Whether or not they are consecutive or not is a different story entirely.

I'd love to be able to do that, bit I can see painting time dwindling rather than increasing in the near future! Will be keeping atit though, it's my way to wind down after the rough days!

Did a bit more on beaky tonight, and made a mess of things again! In my head I envisaged a robe bedraggled through centuries of battle on chemical wind eroded alien worlds! What I got was the roughest, cheapest toilet roll abused by centuries of the squirts!

I think my technique is getting better, but my colour choices either too harsh or completely wrong on the robes?

I think it is looking good and your technique is improving. If you want it to look more aged, perhaps some glazes of different colors and then re-highlight. Or some darker browns at the bottom to suggest dirt build up. I know i saw a tutorial an creating mud build up somewhere on cmon.

Thanks Krule, I'll look into adding some glazes once I've got a bit more colour down and see what I need to tie it in a bit!

Thought I'd go a bit old school and add some checkers to beakie, what do you guys think? Theres going to be some more on the banner and perhaps the tiles on the base to bring it together a bit.

I found painting them pretty hard going, my tounge was sticking out and everything!

Thanks Will and Krule, I'm actually a bit more happy with how its progressing now it's got a bit more paint on it! It's making me want to go and strip my Imperial Fists and do them all again in blue and crimson! I won't though, I never really played any games so no point!

My metallics still suck, my brain has a complete lack of comprehension as to where light falls. Apparently it's a medical thing called "shadowysuckyitis". Thats my story and I'm sticking to it........

Great job! I love the checkers! I want to see a little blood splat on them though! ;)

Have you thought about entering the contest circuits of 2013?

I was thinking about a little bit of gore on the saw and on the checked tiles of the floor! I'm not much of a competition painter i'm afraid. I do put models into GD but only to get in early! I'm not even sure what comps there are at my side of the pond other than GD!

I think, barring the shoulder pad symbols, that the main body is done. I'm toying with painting on some scratches on the armour, not sure if it will add to it or not?

Finish the base next then in to the banner, dreading it!

Main body nearly done, chapter markings and a few little details to do, then banner time! Wasn't sure what to do with the banner pole, went for a dark wood grain effect.

Any ideas for improvement? I was going to go for a bit of bloid splatter on the blade and tiles as per Will's suggestion, and perhaps two red lines along the bottom of the cloth to break it up a bit?
