imperium evil?

i think the imperium has gotten more evil as i have played warhammer 40k. the new which hunter army seems really evil with diabolical machines called a PENITENT ENGINE which is power by a heretic. there are also arco flagilents who are also freaky as well. gw seems to have taken every thing wrong with the middle ages ( witchhunters, flagelents) and put it in space. all in all its pretty cool but evil

Have you read the fluff...the GW universe is a very dark and perilous place your soul hangs in balance all the time...or it could be the ever warping affects of chaos...maybe it\'s getting to an all time low and the emperor will be reborn.

Seriously....hense the gothic feel of the game. It is very much a consious effort on their part. The Imperium is meant to blow.:flip::bouncy:

considering the empirium armies really are the good guys (such as they are) in comparison to the rest of the universe, I\'m just glad I\'ll never meet up with a tyranid in a dark alley!:eek:

Yup the Imperium is a really harsh and cruel place. I always think of the Monty Python skit of Burn The Witch in the Holy Grail, that reminds me of the mentality of Inquistors/ Witch Hunters.

Here\'s a question for you, is the Emperor the newest addition to the pantheon of Chaos Gods? Kind of like Slaanesh was to the Eldar.

A hundred souls a day extiguished to feed and power the Astronomicon.

The only true good guys are the Tau they work for the greater good of all (Communism in its purist form). The Imperium is filled with a bunch of power hungry bureaucratic nonsense mixed with superstitious rhetoric and not to mention tyrannical rule (Almost like the germans of WWII). Even though I play both IG and Spacewolves it is after the truth......???

Maybe cuz I\'m a Yank I belive in Life, Liberty and Property rights and the Imperium honor none of those ... not even their own and not even rhetorically.

Are the Tau hegemenous? I thought they were the only \"good\" race in the game. One need not by communist to hang the \"greater good\" mantle on it. Arguably Nazi-Socialism was touted as for the greater good of Germans; I guess it\'s a matter of perspective ...

Yup, the Imperium is certainly far from being the shining light of goodness. The thing I like about the Tau is that they\'re not caught up in the whole \'good\' v \'evil\' thing (I\'m not too sure who the good guys are though now!). They\'re fighting for their own interests of survival and expansionism (maybe not the most ethical of reasons, but at least there\'s no sinister plot behind it). They even get on with humanity and other races at times (kroot mercs, human auxiliaries, bet they\'d get on with Eldar and anything else not essentially evil as well), which is a far cry from the Imperiums policy of killing everything and everyone to make the universe a safer place!

As for it just being a game. Well, if you follow that dictum to its logical conclusion you\'d soon find that we\'re all wasting our time with games, figures, and painting!

actually when I saw the witchhunters... the only thing I thot was....\"cooooolllll... gooottthic...\" and that\'s it.

its essentially JUST a game. if it has a cool background/fluff - thumbs up

if it doesnt - thumbs down = bad sales = no more product from that product line.



If you are gonnna get worked up about political discussions... I\'d suggest you not read any further......





however, if you wanna look at the imperium as some sorta political entity... here\'s wat I think...

honestly after years of studying in school about the expansionist policies, or rationale behind said policies of various nations both ancient and modern.... I kinda couldnt really care two hoots about the morality/moral reasons behind it all......

if a joe-on-the-street like me does end up under a regime like the Imperium.... I would be okay living under such a regime provided that:

1. the expansionist regime does not go around wantonly killing people for no good reason.

2. the proper rule of law and system of justice is adhered to by regime

3. the regime has proper separation of religion and state

4. the the regime effectively manages economic and social wellbeing of as much of society as possible.


If, like the current Imperium, the regime becomes intolerable for any of the above reasons, I\'d try to first find legal/governmental means of redressing problems/issues.

Failing that, I\'d find a way to get out of the regime and join the Tau or whoever is out there that is most tolerable.

I\'d almost not consider revolutionary action unless it is to save lives because:

1. I am a bitter and cynical ol\' fart.

2. I have a realistic view about my strengths and weaknesses.

And it\'s only a game.

The real tragedy is: My team (the New Jersey Devils) and my team in law (the Canucks) are out of the race for the Stanley.

Now that\'s wrong. :(

There will come a day when the Tau way will be the only logical path to follow. On that day we will not mock your past misunderstands but rather welcome you with open arms to better realize the greater good.

And if you inisit on the destructive path you choose we shall end your life with a quick mont\'ka and move on. :)

It is not corruption, you seek the aid of the tau because in us you see splendor and greatness. These are qualities you to can have Tau\'va will grant this.:D
