... photos of Lord Castor of Kislev! :D Sorry for the photo quality, hopefully soon I will get a new camera (thanks Iain :)). He does look a lot better irl (he\'s VERY close up) but I hope you like him :) I will add this link to pastor\'s thread when it\'s up.

Well, here he is folks! :D I realise the photos are not great (jungle background on a snow base), but I hope you can see him. I plan to enter him for Youngbloods this year, and also pastor\'s competition.
Many thanks to my good friend Iain for letting me use his camera :) Anyway, about the mini... After many hours of drilling, I swapped his piddly little sword for a Kislev Halberd (thanks Mark, thanks also for help with the colour scheme). I kept with the original GW colour scheme, but faded it by adding lots of greys, to look bleached and worn by years of hard Northern weather. I added red tones to his face and skin to make him look ruddy in the cold, and there are no golds-all the metals are silver only :) I attempted some limited, subtle freehand and am quite pelased with how that came out. I kept the colour scheme as simple as possible, and the browns tonally similar: the leaves on the base (thanks Rune and Albert) have branches the same colour as the shaft of his halberd, the bow on his back, his boots and the beavers.
Yes. Beavers. I hope you like them, they are all sculpted. Castor is the Romance language version of beaver, a nice bit of history there :D The base is slate, with real soil and a lot of snow, along with a manky Chaos shield (Kislev are great enemies of Chaos). The blade of the halberd is a tribute to nano of Spanish Team.
I would like to thank some people who have helped along the way: Torstein, Mark, Rune, Albert, Fernando, Banshee, Margo, Hashmallum, mistamick, everybody who has commented on my past minis, and all my friends on wonderful CMON, and all my friends IRL. And of course thanks to pastor for starting this competition, and good luck to all entrants! Thanks again to Iain, sorry to anyone I forgot :)

I hope you like him :)

*Don\'t forget I\'m only 13 :innocent:*

Comments and critique welcomed!

Quality of the photos notwithstanding, It\'s nice. Probably D**n fine in Real life.

I would make one suggestion the leaves on the etched brass plants should be turned to be horizontal and not vertical. that way they\'d look right and you could then very lightly dust them with snow.

:)

Well Bill, that is just TOTALY INCREDIBLE! You have improved since the ogre! Just amazing! I will praise you more in a pm soon.;)

Btw, i think he would look even cooler with a banner flowing behind him....would give you more space for freehand!:D

take care mate

Thank you all very much guys :)

James: He is allowed 40mm for decoration, as long as he came with 25mm or under :D
Torstein: I agree, I might add a small banner on his halberd...

Thanks again guys, hopefully I can get some nicer pics soon :)

~Bill

*edit* Right now he is only averaging 5.9 :( I really do need some better photos :(

Nice, but to many smilies in the description. Man I should post some of the stuff I painted when I was 13, it makes me weep to see such good painting from one so young.

Maybe if I had CMON I could have been that good then... hmmm...

That\'s a pretty solid job by any standards... but given your age, it\'s incredibly well done.

I\'d have to agree with DR regarding the leaves.

Here is a tip:

Take the widest of your pics, doesn\'t matter what size it is. Then use that size to cut out the others (back, side views) that you have so they are the same size. Don\'t do this to detail shots of course.

Then you make the shots 600 wide and put them on top of eachother one at a time, and end with the detail shot at the bottom.

That way, the pictures have the same width. :)

EDIT: Also, check out the way to take pictures. It\'s quite a setup you need but it\'s well worth it...

Thanks for the tips :) The photos were taken with a not-so-good camera, hopefully I will eventually make a good montage...

It\'s good, but I don\'t think it\'s your Golden Demon entry. I\'m pretty sure in the months between now and the event someone with your rapidly incerasing ability can do something that surpasses this!

The mini is very nice though. Good choice of colours, good skin, tidy higlights and their placement seems to be spot on, the freehand is subtle and well executed, the blade\'s great.

There are a few things that really could do with improvement for me though and they are pretty much all to do with the base. The brass etched leaves are out of place standing up like that as has been mentioned. They need flattening out and perhaps would look better coming from a slightly withered and ragged tree stump. It is the nasty cold wastes of Kislev after all.

The thing that really doesn\'t work for me though is the snow. Flock on its own just doesn\'t look like real snow, it\'s far too coarse. For a better effect you should have a go at a mixture of glue and bicarbonate of soda. You could put flock on that if you wanted too, not sure how it would work. A great, but rather extreme tip I picked up from Bragon\'s site is to sprinkle ground up glass into the mix as it dries, which makes an awesome sparkle.

Following on from this the flock snow on the mini itself doesn\'t work for me either. Once again it is too heavy. Here I would suggest using gloss varnish or wet effect to give the lower areas of the cloak a wet look and if you feel it is necessary paint on a few subtle hints of white very carfully, blending it into the wet glossy surface.

Sorry to go on but complex and detailed basing is a bit of a passion of mine! In fact it\'s probably my favourite bit about doing a figure. You have the model painted, the finish is in sight and all that\'s left is to put your model in the perfect setting. Ah happiness!

Anyway, great work but if you sort the base this will enter a new class alltogether for me.:)

Thanks for your advice :) I have flattened the leaves now. Could anyone please help getting the photos into a decent montage of images with a good resolution? All the photos are in my photobucket album, I would be very grateful if someone could help (tonight as the comp is tomorrow ), I\'m no good with this sort of thing. The images have a nice res that I posted on the forum, help very much appreciated! :D

Thanks

~Bill
