Heres my latest submission, very happy with how she turned out. I did her up in a color scheme similar to my Eldar Warlock.

Ok I\'ve been looking at the picture and thinking what I could suggest to you and the primary thing I have to say is your basing.
While it\'s good as is, because it\'s still in the original unpainted condition it\'s \"detracting\" from the overall impression of the mini.
The small stones we use are reflecting light in a different aspect that the painted mini and therefore the human eye\'s translation matrix (the brain) see\'s something as not quite rright and \"clicks \" that the stones are not truely to scale. Plus the shadows within the stones are \"natural\" and not enforced by clever painting techniques (ie washes and drybrushing).
Personally I think that if you worked on the base to paint it up to a similar level as the banshee herself then you\'d have a belter.

As for the figure herself, there is very little to suggest on her, perhaps you may want to work on the pistol\'s highlights and possibly raise the highlight levels a touch, but those are minor points.

Thanks DR appreciate it. and yeah the pistol was kinda messin with me, being straight up an down I guess making exagerated shadows perhaps on the part facing away from her would work ???

lol tho if you new how many layers of paint are on that base, black base coat, three shades of grey dry brushed, a dark brown wash, a muddy brown wash three tones of a yellowish leather and an earth brown dry brushed, then ground up pastels a yellow and brown. tho most of the dry brushing and washes are concealed admittedly by the pastel dust. I was trying to get a dusty arid wastland feel. Any tips on achieving that with better effect? bashing a pastel with a hammer isn\'t as smooth as mig pigments and the lil rocks are the bits of pastel that didn\'t get powdered lol and I\'ll tell ya making powder that way is messy as a son of a gun even with it in a double ziplock.

so basically whats a better way to geta dusty arid wastlandish feel. After awhile static grass and cork rocks get a lil boring :)

Mortar & Pestle for grinding up pastels and or refining sand.
You can (if you are feeling rich) buy ground pumice from Vallejo.

But you do surprise me I could have sworn that the base was natural and unpainted. Take that as a compliment. :D

thanks for the tip mortar and pestel makes perfect sense, I\'ll try an play around with the base see if I can rework some shadows in and once I find the mortar n pestel see about brushing off the larger chunks and redust it. thats my second go at trying the dusty method and currently I\'m a bit haphazard with it.

really like the colours you\'ve used here and the sword is lovely.....
Like DR I would say the main problem is the base ..It\'s just a little overpowering for the piece.. Maybe introducing a little purple into the base will help..but at the moment it just distracts a little from what is a great looking paint job and a different and totally working colour selection....great stuff.

well done mate you are really improving! i agree with previous comments about the base. also the tabard could do with a little more highlighting. overall though a mighty fine job, especially the sword

Great figure, not so great base. I reckon its a bit too large aswell. Chop it down, add some more colour and perhaps a few little tufts of yellowed grass and it would look tons better IMO.

okay so I\'m gonna give her a new base, what are some ideas of what you think would look good. My only criteria is I like the motion in the piece so I want it to be something she\'s leaping off of and into battle.

Thanks for all the comments glad everyone likes her :) she was alot of fun to paint and lucky me I got 4 more and jain zar or whatever her name is the giant banshe chick

have her jumping off something small to highlight her gymnastic ability. maybe a small I-beam poking out of rubble or something like that

I think DR touched on it, but the base is \"lifeless\" as it is. It needs some \"dirt\", which I guess ground up pastels might do. Idea for the new base, I suppose.

The structure as it is is fine.. just needs to be either smaller...keeping he part she is jumping off or something dbris like to break up the lage area a bit...

after seeing Demonherald\'s suggestion I decided to just use a hobby knife and slice the top 2 pieces off the larger base piece. The ork skull is just sittin there for the time being wasn\'t sure about it fittting or not. So what do you all think better? worse? or still not right.

first base i didn\'t like so much, this base seems more fitting as it isnt so big. only thing it seems to lack is some foliage of some kind. live or death, even biodegraded. of course it would need ot fit with the land you want the figure to be like, and it doesn\'t need much. maybe a sprig of dead grass sticking up through the orcs skull?

and since for whatever reason i cannot see the voting section of the site i will issue my vote here even though it will nto get averaged into the system.

new base considered i give the overall mini a 8.

i don\'t like these minis they jsut don\'t look that good. but being painted like this they look totally different from just seeing them in a blister. the gun does look a bit off. maybe too clean looking or to cream looking. the gem detail is ridiculous! so an 8 just because the gun and base seem to be lacking something IMO.

I hear ya on the base I was trying to keep it in line with my warlocks base so they all kinda match up but I may just redo his base to match what this one gets.

Originally I had made the 2 peaks and big base because I was going to do the banshee and Jain Zar each leaping off a peak but the Jain zar is too top heavy and make the cork curve so I resigned her to gettin her own base something I can build a counterweight and some extra support into.

Yeah the she is still in the waiting line to get into the mini gallery so voting is gonna be on hold a lil bit.

and yeah I love doing gems they add nice pizzaz and really aren\'t that hard or tedious. The 4 million (so it seemed) blends on the stupid sword not that was tedious but worth it.

I had even tried some osl on the glowy parts of the gun and back pack but I didn\'t like it so painted over it, I thought I was careful but I think I just made it one color on each face of the gun without relizing it.

Thanks for the compliments and vote lol hopefully it\'ll go active in the gallery soon.

much better. not sure about the ork skull. i would drybrush the base a little more to add mroe contrast as it looks too natural when you compare it to the contrast on the mini

Here she is new base first try doin a lil scene like this. decided to go the total opposite of a dusty wastland and have her jumping from a stone in a stream. Hopefully this base does the figure more justice. I also went back a hit all the highlights on the purple armor, added more shadow and highlight to the gun, and hit up the highlights and shadows on the tabard. as always feedback is welcome and appreciated.

ok now i want an army of these things.... and i dont even like the Eldar!

gun looks much better and i love the pussy-willows!

i can see a unit of these dancing across the river coming right at me.

Friar

Dorks for Orks
Yeah the pussy Willows (inspired by Lizcam\'s latest piece) were actually fairly easy goin, only thing I\'d prob do different is paint the paper then cut out the leaves.

And I learned when using craft glue for water effect (I\'m cheap) crazy glue does wierd stuff when you coat it when the craft glue is half dry, cases it to ripple and turn white pretty crazy like, lol prob look perfect for doin surf or ruff water but not cool on a lazy stream. An it musta caused a chemical reaction bloody well started smellin like burnt plastic.

thanks for the remarks Shad :flip:
