How to stay focused...!

I have trouble finishing lots of stuff! I love starting new projects, but just don\'t have the motivation to finish them sometimes!

I find when I get the most done is when I sit down for a long painting session and crank up the volume on my ipod (You have to turn it way up for DragonForce!!!) :)

I am \"on again, off again\" with every interest I have. For instance, I haven\'t painted a mini in over eight months. I quite smoking and got interested in some non-mini projects that had me distracted for a long time. Any advice for someone who takes such long breaks? It sounds like a lot of us are like this.

Dragonforce has nothing on Rhapsody BTW

Welcome!

I think there\'s been some great advice thus far, and don\'t have too much to add, other than keeping your goals small and achievable is really important. If you set yourself up for an impossible goal, then you\'ll start a downward spiral and never get anything done.

Heck, I haven\'t painted anything in over a year now (of course, a lot of that had to do with work, buying a new house and moving, and finally getting married last month). In the process of moving, I was reminded just how much unpainted crap I have, and it\'s very daunting. ;)

Because of the \"oh my, I have sooo much to paint...\" feeling, it\'s hard for me to get started again, because I\'m impatient and want it all done. :p So, in my case, I\'m going to pick things apart (e.g., first goal is get the Khador box set that I\'ve had for like 2 years assembled and painted) into smaller chunks, and then make sure the next thing is fairly different (in my case, then move to the Mechanithralls for my Cryx).

You might find it helpful to work on only one mini at a time, and maybe even concentrate on one technique at a time per painting session. You could grab a few models and say, \"Ok, this paint session, I\'m going to work on getting a really nice basecoat.\" Don\'t do anything but that. Next session, grab those same models and say, \"Ok, this time it\'s all about getting down glazes.\" I found that helped me focus enough on what I was doing to gain some confidence in my abilities. Once you are feeling sure about \"yeah, I can put down a good shading glaze, no sweat!\" then you aren\'t as daunted about the full model ahead of you.

Good luck, and make sure to post pics!

Painting with people that live near you is also good motivation. It sets a specific time where you intend to just get together and paint.

Hehe... is that a hint, johnboyjjb? Maybe we should try to have a SAP reunion...
