I fully condone the search feature too, but I know its not the easiest tool to use...

For Metal minis, I have used Pine-Sol and a product called Simple Green. Both seem to work pretty well.

Let em soak for a few hours or even a day, and then scrub the hell out of them with a toothbrush. The cheapo electric toothbrushes work great for that.

I\'ve heard of people also using brush soap, but that stuff is kind of pricey to be pouring it into a container for that purpose.

People use brake fluid, but I\'ve never tried that, and I think that is for plastic minis as well.

I did use pinesol on plastic minis, but I forgot about them, and after a week or so, they looked a little goopy...maybe you better not try that!

In the UK, I believe Dragonsreach recommends something called Dettol, but I may be wrong, and that may be some sort of illegal substance for all I know..

I use pinesol for plastics. I leave them in for about 4 hours and then scrub with a toothbrush. If that doesnt do the trick I throw them back in and check every 30 minutes to an hour to make sure they arent turning goopy like supervike said. I\'ve had models lose parts to Pinesol before, but if they\'re GW plastics you probably have tons of spare parts on the sprue still, I know I did (finally a reason for all those spares other than conversions).

For metals I use nail polish remover. Just throw em in. Let em sit. For as long as needed. I guess you could probably use Pinesol too.

Pinesol is a cleaning supply, you can find it pretty much anywhere, Canadian Tire (where I get mine), Zellers, Safeway (I think), and I\'m sure any other stores similar would probably carry it.

Nail polish remover is, well... nail polish remover, you can probably find it at any drug store (I think mine is from Safeway)...

As for simple green and dettol I vaguelly remember them both being UK products and I\'m not sure where you\'d be able to get them here in Canada...

For plastics I use brake fluid. Leave them in for an hour and scrub with a toothbrush. I f they are heavily covered you may need to repeat this.
For metals I use paint stripper. You do need to use rubber gloves when you scrub off the paint as it is hichly corrosive.

Acetone (eg nail polish remover) works great on metal and those rubbery Hero Clix minis but DO NOT use on styrene plastic! Including Hero Clix bases lol I\'ve actually heard mixed reviews of Pine Sol so I personally avoid it.

Use oven cleaner. Do it outside cause it stinks. Works on plastic and metal. Leave it over noght scrub the meatl but just rinse the palstic under the tap. It will discolor metals tho but undercoat will usually fix that. The plastics do go soft but will harden in a few hours after you wash them. As always try any new stuff on a mini you can afford to lose.

Yet another method for you to try; caustic soda. A saturated solution of the stuff works very well on metals. The paint almost flakes off, with no need for serious scrubbing. It won\'t harm plastics, but I don\'t think it\'s as effective on plastics.

I\'ve tried Dettol, which for these purposes is apparently equivalent to Pinesol. It turned the paint into a messy goo.

Brake fluid is better than caustic soda on plastics, but as effective than caustic soda on metals. It\'s just not the sort of thing you can dump down the drain - it\'s difficult to dispose of.

So caustic soda is my choice. It\'s the least messy, requires little scrubbing, is very effective on metals and is easy to dispose of.

In answer to your first question, I usually don\'t.

If it wasn\'t plastered in the first place, you won\'t lose anything in details with a couple more coats.

Fr plastic figures.. I use Castrol Super Clean sold in the automotive isle at most discount orutomotive stores. Its a parts cleaner that strips paint great off plastic figures and is bio degradeable so down the drain when your done. Ive also use break fluid, but its messy, you really have to scrub the minis good after with good soap and water and then there is the disposal issue.

Both will also work on metal figures.

Always remember to wear rubber gloves.

I\'ve never tried Dettol, I just normally use a painstripper from any DIY store. Only suitable for metal figures though. Dump \'em in a mug and leave them for a bit. Obviously you have to use gloves or it is painful.

Dettol is just a household antiseptic we have over here. Although a peculiar ex girlfriend used to use it as a mouthwash.

I usually use Easy-Off oven cleaner. It is good for metals and plastics.

Contrary to popular belief, I have successfully used acetone on plastic minis. Dunk a toothbrush in the acetone and start scrubbing. Then rinse it, done. Didn\'t notice any harm to the figure.

I just took my minis out of some Simple Green where they had been soaking for at least a week. All the paint has come off nicely. However, the minis (which were metal) now have a dullness to them. I\'ve managed to get some of the shine back with a brass wire brush. I know they don\'t need to be shiny since I\'m going to primer them anyway but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing with metal in Simple Green.

As if I would............

Dettol is as close to Pine-sol as you can get and it is good a removing paint from Mini\'s. Of course the less time that elapses between paint drying and into the Dettol does help matters.
Older paint does take a little longer and may require a bit of \'Elbow Grease\' via a toothbrush to shift the stubborn bits.
