A good few years ago my wife and I were walking the dog one sunday morning and saw about a dozen hares dancing and running around in what I believe to be some kind of mating behaviour. We watched them for easily 15-20 minutes and the were oblivious to both of us and the dog. Wish I\'d had either a camera or a video with us that day.
We had/ have a habit of going for a good long walk on Christmas morning and one such morning were walking along the path of a counrty park when two Roe Deer crossed our path less than 10 feet in front of us. Magic sight!.
Edit: What you call a \"jackrabbit\" might be a hare.
I re-read your post as well, yes we still have \'Hares\' but they are not as numerous as the French imports.

Your hare does bear a striking resemblance to our jackrabbits. Although jackrabbits are become very rare in the midwest. Cottontails however are a plague, similar to locusts. They are at least edible, but only after a good freeze (kills off the wormy ones - or so I have always been told.)

Rabbits: Brainless, stupid, short-lived little buggers that make really nice stews. Possibly their only redeeming feature. Shoot on sight.
Hares: Fantastic creatures that seem intelligent, long-lived and mate for life. Part of our heritage and I\'d maim anyone I saw pointing a gun at them.

Hare coursing! Why doen\'t we chase the people who do that down with Dogs instead. Might increase the percentile IQ of the Human race, by a fraction.
