Heldiar WIP- Changeling and little fight

Little update on ogroid. Small accident happened. Always check airbrush after cleaning clogged nozzle, I didn't. So skin was done for sixth time. All his mark painted, maybe some tidying up work required. Also I'm not sure so if someone have ideas pls share, should I black line them or at least paint dark green lines inside of carvings, and should any edge highlights be done. I think it looks ok as it is but them two things are just bothering me. Any way some pics.

Looks great Heldiar. I sympathise completely with the airbrush issues.

i had a good look at the Ogroid on the GW webpage the other day (you and Hairster have me tempted) and they seem to have edge 'highlighted' around the marks with a shadow colour. Seemed to be a good way of getting them to stand out

Have been having similar questions on mine Heldiar....not quite sure what to do with them yet...infact I've not even painted the base white in all of mine yet....may get onto them this weekend hopefully. Looking good so far though, look forward to seeing it finished.

I have been looking on GW pics too and they are bit highlighted. But they are not osl, and that's my problem. I tried add some edge highlights on hand here and there and it looked weird for me. My other option is add highlight as another layer of light to osl that could work, and also test my patience. There yet I would add darker line in carvings, which are pain in everyone knows where.

I vote no to dark lining or edge highlighting them, right now they look like they're glowing, i think that effect will get lost or at least be less effective if you added either edge highlights or dark lining

i'm with sicks here. leave them be, or at least until you have more of the mini finished. then you can see if you need that edge colour or not

And that's what I'm gonna do, I will clean them up and later will decide but probably they will be as they are. Some work on him had been done.

I like how his horn looks like, but not so happy about skull I thing that it will need some darkening and redo highlights. Contrast is still thing what I need to work on.

Looking really clean Heldiar, rune glow is really working nicely on this. Keep it up and looking forward to seeing it complete.

Interesting to watch someone painting the same mini as yourself and see the contrasting approach.

The face is impressive, looking forward to seeing the rest of him at that standard. Hairster's right, your two different approaches both make good cases for both airbrush and brush painting.
Good stuff

Yup I agree with Foxtail and Hairster... it is really interesting see both projects develop at the same time ^^

Very well done. I must have missed this thread somehow. I'll try to keep an eye on your work in the future.

My favourite parts on this piece are the white cloth, and the NMM gold on both belt and horns, looks excellent to me. Almost cannot tell if it's NMM or TMM ^^ Green runes OSL is also great.
On the other hand the things I feel more "weak" are the skin and the redbrown on his hands, since to me, they (hands) look a bit too solid/harsh, but anyway I like the idea of mimicking his hair colour on his hands and the final piece its very nice and appealing to the eye.

Thanks guys. I must admit his weak side of skin, I could push bit more highlight or some more shadow. Next one will be better I actually have some nice idea for another ogroid but that will need to wait. For now I started my old ork warboss. And that what was done today. Shadows not done yet and highlight in some places on arm need smoothing also nuckles and elbow still need some touch up.

The Ogroid turned out really nicely Heldiar...as I said before it's good to watch someone else's project develop at the same time as your own and see the alternative techniques and approaches to the same mini.

The NMM turned out really well, along with the runes (something I was not ultimately happy with on mine)

look forward to to seeing the Ork develop

Thanks Hairster. I was even thinking to gather few guys on CMON forum and make like one month thing to paint same figure and see different ways to do it. Gives you so many ideas and opening your mind for other ways to do it when you see how other people doing same thing different way.
Some progress on ork. Skin done I would say, bit of clothes and metal plate on his leg as a trial how its gonna look before I will do it on rest, and I think its going to work nicely.
