Yes, my fellow gamers, for the third time within a year GW has jacked up their prices !!! I was in my local gaming store and was told by the GW rep, \"Buy it now because GW has raised their prices across the board \" due to the high price of oil and tin\"\". Dont believe me, just look!!! Codexs on the site are now $25 US, single minis are $10 US, sets are $40 and up US, and the Exorcist for Sisters of battle just released last friday went up another $5 to $55 US !!! This sucks !!!!!

what does oil and tin have to do with the price of a freaing codex? I saw that chaos knights are now 50 bucks a box. imho, that is insane. I remember back when i started warhammer (5 years ago?) i could buy two DE corsairs in a blister for 6.50. My rant is over. Sorry. :)

Indeed... if the price increase is related to oil/tin cost, why did the plastic kits go up as well?

Bloody hell...

I would just like to throw in my 2 cents. I am sure doubling in raw material cost will impact your bottom line somewhat, but these companies are just crazy with their price increases. I understand historical mini companies charging $1-2.00 for a mini need to raise their price, but GW? Are there prices not high enough as it is? For what it is worth, plastic is a partoleum by-product, but I don\'t care what you say about oil prices, there is no way in hell that the price increased to a point whereby you need to charge $50.00 for a plastic model kit. It probably cost $2.00 to manufacture, if that, in terms of material cost.

But, we love this hobby, and these big boys certainly have the goods, so what can you do :flame:

Sad thing is that this is a one way street. They might cry bloody murder when the raw material goes up, when the prices do stablize and come back down, don\'t hold your breathe and wait for them to announce a price decrease. :moon:

Oil goes with the plastic and Tin is to the metal mini\'s, since they can\'t be Lead any more... LOL... To me they were already over priced.. GW would have been smart to have kept their over priced mini\'s the same and let everybody else raise their prices, but it is happening everywhere all across the board ...all of your favorite companies are raising their prices to keep up with the economic times. To me I can\'t tell if it\'s really a just an excuse to do it because everybody else is or because its truely a must! I suspect the first one but thats just my humble opinion. The industry found an alternative to Lead at one time maybe they can find one for the Tin as well? ... There\'s my RANT ... if they price themselves too high they\'ll just be out of business anyway.

I\'m not paying that much for a plastic tank! ~ Famous last words right before I hand over the credit card to the clerk.

Muhahahaha! I can remember when everybody thought the prices would come down when they went to plastic..

Borg - You got that Dead on they won\'t bring the price down once it\'s up there and they figure everybody is used to it but such is life... It will cost them, maybe not today but it will eventually.

Reaper also has taken a price increase due to rising tin costs. So it might not be *quite* as far fetched as it could have been.

Course, I won\'t argue that GW was already costly in the first place. :)

All I am saying is that if you are not selling your minis for a dollar of two right now, you have no right for a price hike. I mean, there is not a lot the consumers can do about it anyways, so why not be a man and use big words like inflation, or better yet, greed, to justify it, blaming it on tin and oil is just lame. :|~

I suppose another price increase means I\'ll have to get a job if I want to buy more minis. Oh well.

And it IS possible to get GW to lower prices, it just isn\'t easy. One way is to start buying proxies for your armies from other manufacturers (granted it keeps you out of tournaments but tournaments are just another money pit anyways). For example: WHFB orc players like myself, try these guys. Play 40K, Try These , or even These.

Like I said it wouldn\'t be easy, but if we could get just one hundred thousand people to stay out of GW stores for just one year  then I think they\'d find a way to lower prices.

GW tends to be into this thing where a price increase means an increase of 5 bucks. It seems like everytime there is a price increase they think 5 bucks is the best way to do it. \"oh we need to raise the prices slightly.\" \"why not jsut raise them 5 dollars again? That keeps the math nice and simple.\" ....Rediculous. I hate to bring up chaos knights again. But i think that is probably the most ludicris of any of the increase in price. i mean come on, there are 5 horses in there and 5 metal figures.

GW plastic kits are preposterously priced as it is, compared to \"regular\" plastic kits you buy at the hobby store. I honestly don\'t know why anybody is willing to pay $75 CDN for a Land Raider! It\'s just a bunch of plastic.

Thats GW...

gw\'s prices right now are bs. $8 US for spraypaint primer? and vallejo paints are better, cheaper, and you get more paint, vs. gw crap. i personally hate gw, but i find it hard to completley boycott them, despite the high prices, but everyone needs to not buy so much from them, mabye that would show them their prices suck. (Then again, they probably know most people hate their prices, but gw doesnt do anything about it)

(i shouldnt ramble like this)

Let all just face the facts. GW is a bunch of greedy corporate suits intent on wringing as much cash out of its loyal cusomers as it can. They have shown no regard for their customers and sooner or later their stranglehold on the hobby will end. When I first started in the hobby Ral Partha and Grenadier were kings, and we all what happened to both of these companies. Reaper is working on a tabletop army game, Warlord, that has cool figures in it. Wargods is another cool company that is not that big now, but may begin to make its presnce felt by offering cheaper quality figures. Deep down inside I started this thread hoping that some GW person might actually read it and communicate back to the stuffed suits that the natives are restless and maybe the BS reason for a price hike wasn\'t such a smart idea. Oh, I keep forgetting, in order for them to reconsider this price hike, they would have to care..... I keep forgetting that they don\'t!!!

Oh by the way, in all fairness I know that you GW guys routinely read these threads so if any of you can find your spines, maybe you could write and express your side of this arguement. If I were a betting man, I think the safe money is on that not happening though...

Well, I\'m gonna see if my LGS\'s priced have gone up or not, probably next week... if they have gone up, to reflect the GW US store, I\'m gonna have turn to ebay for the rest of my purchases...

*sigh* if there were only a competitor to 40k, that was widely played and had better prices..

Makes me happy I\'ve decided to buy all vehicles and box sets of anything on eBay. I just won a metal Chaos Dreadnought today for $27.00 including shipping. Beats the hell out of $45.00 plus tax from GWs website or the local GW store. In preparation for a Rogue Trader tournament at the end of August my force needs 4 Plaguebearers, a Dread, my new Chaos Lord, and a Predator. That\'s like $125 to add 350 points to my army. Insane. On the other hand, buying it all on eBay (except bitz, there\'s no fix for that, although I\'ve got an auction for an Ahriman mini watched, guy wants $4 for him) could save you 40-50%. And several places (like New Wave) still offer a flat 30% off everything GW, you just have to email them your order or call them because GW won\'t allow places to have online storefronts anymore.

:idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea:

The answer is to buy some GW stock I guess. It closed at $1.23260 a share today, not out of anyone\'s reach.

Go ahead, buy yourself fifty shares. You\'ll see the price increase in a whole new light. ;)

EDIT: HAH!! Another upstate New Yorker! Where you from Braveheart?

Well, my Wammer 40K army\'s almost done... Just a tank, some termies and then finish my scratchbuilt titan. Not too much more money GW can suck out of me. Then for cool minis just to paint, there\'s the great models from Cell. Man these things are cool; Cell.

Warlord is not necessarily a bargain though either - I bought 3 paladins with 2handed swords for $10.99! ($3.66 a fig) I got a regular shopper discount otherwise I would have passed.

I\'m not one to say the sky is falling but these latest increases are really crazy and I make good money! If we\'re all right on these numbers then sales will drop as the stuff is just plain unaffordable.

trying to buy a 2000 point army from scratch is getting very pricey. Even more so now. What does your average 2000 pt army cost now? $400? $500? Even maybe $600 if u buy it all from GW at full retail. Say bye to having any young kids start this game. 13 year olds will have to start mowing 50 yards a day to be able to keep up with these prices.

Well... i\'m 19 now and it took me 7 years to get up to 100 models in my army. But that was second and third edition with some stuff being sold to my nearby hobby shop to make funds for the more expensive pieces. Fourth edition\'s going to hurt the wallet!:~(
