Not surprising though. Those KD minis are horribly fragile.

Hi Elric!!! Aw man, moving does suck! So sorry your forsaker broke but you did learn a valuable lesson. Beer is always afterward! ;) Even though you had some broken items at least they still helped. What really sucks is when they drink all your beer, don't touch a damn thing, and tell you you're doing it wrong.

Well, I recently picked up the miniature mentor how to photo a mini download, and I must say what i dont know about the subject could fill a few dvds :) Here is a WIP of a model ive had since it came out, and i finally started painting it, the arachnok. It looks like I've overexposed it, the red is really out there and drowns out alot of the trransition of color, looks like ill have to work on that as well as lighting!

And here's the finished line up of the SDE chicks!

AHHHH! Dammit Elric! I HATE SPIDERS AND THAT THING LOOKS LIKE ONE!!!

Crystella and I were just chatting about my phobia of spiders tonight and I open this thread and what is the first damn thing I see. It may not be an actual arachnid but its freakin' close enough!

Jiminy Christmas - now I can't even look at the rest of the thread.

haha kath :) I was going for a realistic spider look with the glossy carapace. I like how it looks in real life, but that gloss finish is a &*&^( to photo! I've moved on, my girlfriend's birthday is coming up next month and as part of it I am painting this from E2046.

Here is the base, just basecoated and some shadows added in, sorry for the bad color on the pics, i am STILL learning to correctly use lighting!

God these last few pictures have been bad. I can't wait until my Solux bulbs get here, so tired of this crappy light. I've fiddled with the Fstop and white balance, and these are the closest to the real colors I can get with the equipment I have. I changed the backdrop as well, what do you think? This is the 1st time I've gone for a higher contrast flesh color, the shadows have reds, purples, greens and dark blue in them, while the highlights contains cold blues and greys.

noone has had much to say lately about my stuff, but ahead I go! I worked on the legs and stockings tonight, and I must say, this is the happiest I've been with any technique or work Ive done to date, I hope you like!

That is a niiice pair of legs!

She is definately all legs:tremble!: (poor humor i know). The skin tone on the legs is very smooth and with this piece the composition is starting to click for me. I can 't tell much on the stockings-- i am guessing photo issues or i need to clean a months worth of fingerprints off my IPad. :)

Ya Krule, i failed on the focus there! Thats what sucks about manual focus for me, i always forget to do it! I'll have some clearer pics up tonight that hopefully show the depth of the stockings.

Here are some closer shots of the progress on the stockings. Pretty much done at this point (legs are not) It has just enough leg peeking through for me to look perfect for a black stocking

Here is the skirt with basecoat and all highlights (no shadows done yet)

Work on the clock, extreme highlights. Looks a little rough but I will be knocking that back and smoothing it out with glazes

Thanks for looking!

Well it has been a VERY long tie for me not to update this. I haven't had alot of motivation, though I have been constantly working. I finally finished the fairy tonight

Unfortunately the skin doesn't show up as well, but that's ok because i have to re-do alot of it, it was my 1st go at using pastels for shading and i got a little sloppy with the pigment.
The hair i specifically was going for that anime look in hair where the highlights are super bright near white in spots. What do you guys think?

Elric - as someone that is staring down his own e2046 purchase, any tips for skin colors or application technique? It's a bit daunting, and my airbrush is fickle haha.

Tryst I honestly couldn't see doing the skin without an airbrush. Nevermind the sheer time involved with layering that large of a surface area perfectly, but the actual skill involved is well beyond me. For skin colors for the girls I really prefer the Rosy Skin triad from RMS, with medium fleshtone from VMC (not the sunny skin tone, holy crap is that yellow!) mixed in, then coming back with pastels to finish the shadows. It gives me that paler, almost cream color skin I see alot on anime, except with a little more depth and realism (though my photos don't ever show it!). If you don't have a reliable airbrush, I do not envy the task in front of you!

It is too bad the fairy had so much of the legs covered because that skin tone was brilliant. You are doing some good work here sir.

Thanks much for the kind words Milosh! I was a little disappointed when i finally put her all together and saw that all the work on the legs was for naught :) Oh well, it happens! At least this one wont have that problem
