dragon wings

I\'m working on a scrathbuilt dragon for a friend, and I\'m not sure what\'s the best material to use for the wing membranes... It\'s rather large (total wingspan well over a foot), so I\'d rather not use GS, since it\'s rather costly and impractical to use in thoe quantities... I\'ve been thinking about paper or fabric, but paper would probably look too static, and fabric would just look like fabric... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...:)

Haven\'t tried it but you might try going to an art store and buying some real vellum. It is papery but has different properties that could make it ideal. Ask somebody at the store and they may be able to help you come up with a meterial that will do the trick. Good Luck sounds like a cool project!

Considering the size of the wingspan, I would opt for fine glass-fibre and resin (the kits for car body repairs are ideal for this).

How about cling film? You could wrap it and fold it to shape, and yet it will still look flexible. Paint will stick to it, cos I line my palette with it to save scrubbing it regularly :D

thanks

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it.
The vellum idea sounds interesting, I\'ll have to see if I can get my mitts on any around here... ???
Fiberglass, now there\'s an ambitious technique... :) It would be good and sturdy, no doubt, but I\'d probably muck it up famously... I\'ll have to keep it in mind for future projects though...

cling film... Hmmm, cheap, easily accessible... If nothing else, it\'s worth a go because it\'s simple...:)

If i ever get it finished, and it doesn\'t look right poo, I\'ll be sure to post it...:)

...pardon me for not knowing what you lot call it. \'Cling film\' seems obvious, \'Saran Wrap\' suggests clothing for a \'Saran\':p

Well you\'re in trouble too! You\'ve had a hand in the many thread hijacks that we\'ve done today!

Ha! You\'re insulting Tooshy too, by implying that I\'m a son of a XXXX when I\'m her e-son!

I may not be the local super hero down the street that hijacks every thread or tooshy\'s deranged son. But I consider myself to be a complete stranger, and so I must say that you are makeing me drive myself insane.

This has gotten entirely too silly!

Back to the original topic, you might also want to consider aluminum foil for the wings. I\'ve seen it used to quite good effect. Just a thought. Be sure to post it so we can check it out.

Wohoo! My first thread, and it\'s already hijacked! :D

Hmmm, foil... That could work... I\'ll have to do several dragons for comparative purposes...lol

Sarnies=sandwiches...:)

Oh dear this is getting silly!! How about getting some fine metal gauze (you can get that from hardware shops, bending it to shape and then coating that in fine Milliput?

Regards

Kat

Right, stop that right now, I\'m warning you...

Thick tinfoil (or other metal foil), should be available at art shops.
