However, I do buy a lot of fantasy art books as well as other beautiful things (mineral specimens, fossils, iridescent glass, and prepainted dragons such as those produced by the Tudor Mint - this is the closest I\'ve come to buying painted models really).

Kat, I own a Mineral/Fossil shop here in Colorado, maybe we can swap rocks for minis.

Sounds like an interesting idea. I\'d like to get hold of a keichosaurus at some point, they are very cute and fairly common for a complete skeleton, but still more that I can afford. :D What sort of minis do you like? I paint mainly wolfen and dragons atm. You can see them in my gallery.

I was just wondering if collectors of well painted minis value metal models over plastic?

Is it purely the paint job you\'re after or miniature quality as well (for god\'s sake let\'s not get back onto the old \'I like/hate plastic because...\' debate though)?

Collectors of miniatures are like comic book collectors, they collect along whatever lines that suit their whimsy. Mostly, I think most collectors like to buy models they\'ve seen in publications or done by recognizable names, but that\'s a generalization. Like I said, I\'ve got one friend who collects amazingly well painted Vampire Counts models, and I heard of one female lawyer in Seattle who bought any top-notch painted elf on eBay for quite some time (including one or two of ours).

Plastic vs. Metal

I prefer art. Doesn\'t matter if it\'s metal or plastic.

That being said, it seems that metals are more detailed, and usually get the better treatment by the painters. I don\'t often see many plastics for sale. Not compared to how many metals are out there.

I have no preference as long as the paint work is good! However a metal figure always has a certain feel to it!

I was able to look at some painted resin test shots of GW metals & these are miles better than the released product, however it was a shock to pick them up & have no weight to the model!!

For a comparison just look at Joe Hill\'s Warhammer & 40k winning 2003 GD pieces, plastics!

No real plastic/metal preference here either. I always feel better if there is some heft to the piece, but that is more mental than anything else. Paint quality matters first and foremost.
