its a success, ive finally managed to get to a stage where i can start posting pictures up of my WIP.

Im starting this WIP after a discussion in the painting/convertions forum. If you dont know what the hell i am on about i will explain.

The scene is a commander fighting off around 10 \'mutated\' imperial guard (they are possessed by chaos.) The scene is in an abandoned church/building/thing

So far i only have enough parts for the commander (under construction) and i have the chapel thingy (touching up on painting)

right

heres a few pics of the chapel (i didnt make it, a friend made it and donated it to me a while ago)

pics of the building:

Building with captain inside it:

Parts for captain (no detailed parts (pouches, etc)

I havent got the imperial guard yet so im going to have a real big go at the captain,

I\'ve put some armour damage on him

The plan is for one of his claws to be broken off and stuck in a mutant imperial guard\'s head (thanks to \'The Trooper\' for that amazing idea!)

C + C welcome

THANKS

Off to a good start!
Best part is the clear picture in your head of how you want the scene to play out!
Good luck, and take it one step at a time.
Can\'t wait to see this develop!!

thanks jester

yeh i have a picture in my head

couple of dead mutants (one with claw from commander in his head) a couple attacking the commander (or about to attack the commander) and a few who are in the backround who are mutating so you can get a feel of what has happened to them.

Hopefully going to order the remaining things in the next few days (and get some chaosey mutatie bits from my friend)

Yeh..... i cant wait to develop it! lol

THANKS

firstly thats a nice base to start a lil diorama specially for free :)

suggestions at this point would be positioning the spacemarie inbetween the two collums in the center making his last stand the focus of scene and also giving you a pillar to spike a mutie to, that leaves the far front corners as good off focus spots for the in-process mutating guards, and leaves room for a corpse at the SM\'s feet two muties aproaching and maybe a sneaky one leaping/climping over the rubble at the peak of the triangle. Would be a fairly easy way to give the impression that he is surrounded by these risen bodies spawning with chaos energy that are closing in on him as he makes his stand.

Look forward to seein more :)

Only ten mutants?

Thats not a last stand for a captain, thats a warm up :p

But yeah, if you spike one of the mutants heads to a pillar, remember the way they will mostly use a lightning claw is to slash, or to stab and the drag out, making a hell of a mess.

So maybe with the ones hes killed, having them nearly cut in two, or having their guts ripped out wouldnt be off the mark.

Have you also thought that if you had him spiking one to a pillar, and shooting one in the head at the same time, that packs him into a lot of action, and not having any part of him not involved.

Remember most high ranking members of a chapter are gonna be whirling dervishes in combat, attacking with both weapons at the same time.

i now have ordered 20 imperial guard but i dont have many mutations at all (my friend has less than i thoght)

so its greenstuff for me (and tyranid stuff)

i like the idea of him fighting off loads at once and using both weapons.

i might have a few knives in heads as if he threw the knives at them.

also i will have a blade on the end of the pistol so yeh it will be cool

also (stolen from halo3) i will have a mutant running at him with grenades in his hands and pins in his mouth (implying he will bomb him) if you get wqhat i mean

THANKS

Generally speaking a captain wouldnt have a combat knife though, already having a far larger close combat weapon attached to his hand.

But plasma guns tend to make really nice big burnt holes in people.

i havent actually decided how many imperial guards i will use (because of lack of mutant parts :( )

also i havent decided on the weapon because i found a really cool bolt pistol (no jokes) because it has like a chain of bullets hanging from the bottom (its a chaos one)

OK THANKS

I like the idea of the mad bomber. I would almost have him in the fore of the massed hoards (ie hes the next one that the captain is going to have to deal with). I see in my mind as this is not only the last stand but the last couple of seconds, the climax of the story. As for the knife idea, no, no, no, no! As stated hes got a knife on his fist, and from the sound of things, rounds in his gun. going to a combat knife would be the last thing to do, and throwing it only in the movies (ok that\'s M2C, so take it or leave it)

As for the mutants:
roll out some GS sausages for tenicles
pieces of plastic rod or paper clips cut to the right size for horn/spikes
plasitc card hand blades/ punch spikes
cut the arms/ legs before and after the joints and reverse them
same as before but lengthen them
same as before but add an extra joint
resulpt the face. extra eye or one or no eyes
long tongues
add a face someplace on the model
beaks
extra heads, arms,or legs
the list goes on and on. Isn\'t that the fun of plastic models and Chaos?

Quick and easy way, a thin bit of wire, thats gonna stand up on its own, drill a small hole to fit it into on the correct place on the model, and cover it up in green stuff to get your shape and skin.

Failing that, getting hold of a model with tentacles that you could cut off and use.

And as a suggestion, and if your close enough to a GW store, a lot of them seen to have a bits box for people to raid, can be worth going down there and having a look around before you start trying to scratch build something.

IVE GOT IT!

i will heat up some of the arms/legs to make them look like they are mutated and i will twist them and the such

also, with the tentacles, shall i just poke holes in them to make the bit that quirts out poisin (like on an octopus)

horns should be easy enough, my friend has loads of spikes and such i can use.

Also i could use skelton heads maybe?!?!?

Should i have one or two of the imperial guard who are not mutated and who are helping the space marine? Or not?

THANKS

honestly, the way you PAINT them could go a LONG way to showing them as tainted and other than human...???
