Defiler conversion - More ideas needed!

Hi guys, me again! This time I\'m messing around with one of the first models I painted when I was getting back into the hobby, a chaos defiler. Now....I dont\' play chaos, nor have any chaos armies or models other than this or a single 4th ed Fantasy Chaos warrior, but I\'m playing with it cos the idea was cool!

I\'m not sure about the guy on the front, sorta penitent engine-ish but strapped to the front of a defiler as the daemon host. My intention was originally to SERIOUSLY nurgle-ify the model, but I\'m sorta at odds with myself on that. I would definitely think that Nurgle is the way to go to integrate the pilot into the vehicle, and I definitely have enough green stuff to facilitate the conversion.

I\'ve also been thinking on different types of arms and weapons to kit it out. I still have the four defiler legs complete, and I was thinking like syringe/proboscis type weapons maybe on the arms. Or perhaps wicked clawed appendages. But I can\'t make up my mind.

Any help as quick as possible is appreciated, since I hope to spend another 7 hours or so on the conversion tomorrow while I ... *AHEM* ... work.

Here are some current pics:

My other conundrum is due to the fact that I wanted to make a menacing head atop the defiler in place of the usual tiny pinheads they come with , but if I go with the daemon host, well....that doesn\'t make sense then, does it. I was gonna go with Matrix Sentinel type eyes on the big grey thing at the top if I go with the daemonhost....or a big gaping dribbling crazed melting deamon visage atop it if I go with the head....

Can\'t decide.

PLEZ HILP!

I\'ve also built a big gun, whaddya think? I\'m not sure I\'m sold on it but let me know your thoughts. I\'m also building an arm and it\'s pretty PAINFUL trying to get it looking big and bulky enough....

looking very cool, however i don\'t like the penitent engine thingy. the arm is also very cool and you could give it a tail with a scythe that would look very nurgle-ish.
looking forward to see some progress.

Very nice start. I\'m interested on how your going to \'merge\' the daemon host into the actual machine. Will keep a close eye on this one.

Love the uprighteyness of this, its very cool and original. Fantastic stuff so far, I agree, the arm needs bulking out, and as you intend to do Nurgle, how does decaying flesh and rusty mechanics sound to you? Just a thought and the only advice I could think of TBH:redface:

I\'m thinking less nurgle now and more Hellraiser meets Event Horizon....core chaos stuff...all metal and machine bonded with wicked spirit stuff...

The arm is getting a bulk out and the claw is getting a bit of a rebuild. That\'s the shape I want, I just gotta give it bigger fingers...

Till the next update!

Ok, been talking to my mate and he\'s given me some ideas on the claw.... Lets think Fabius Bile... :D

I\'ll tool up the claw with added syringes, knives and pointy bits, as well as an auger type implement in the middle and perhaps a supplementary arm for especially nasty Fabius type fluids injection...needs playing with , but will involve multiple tubes and pointy bits and pistons and nasty nasty torture type implements.

More to come when I get to play around with it on monday... :D

An idea to bond the daemon host would be to wrap it with a skankload of barbed wire, so it look sreally bloody. Great idea for a conversion!

More updates! I\'ve done more work on the claw with the ideas we came up with over the weekend and here we go, here we go, here we go!

The bulked out claw (still some tidying up to do):

And the legs with some more work done:

Tomorrow - onto the body! And some more tidying up of the arms and legs.... :D

As to the bound idea, I\'m planning on doing that in chains....but razorwire is an interesting spin! Might throw a bit of that in...

What do you guys think about the chains on the leg/hip section? I\'m a bit dubious about it. It looks kinda cool, but I\'m wondering if I need to do something more to it....keep in mind the penitent will be chained pretty seriously into pilotage as well....

The arm looks like it belongs to the body now. It is perfect, anything more would ruin it IMO. As far as the chains go, try to get a variety of chains going. The more different kinds of chain you have the more fitting it would go with the Chaos theme. Looking good! I would love to paint a big piece like this one, it would be a ton of fun!... but yeah, just don\'t make it too busy or else it would be hard to tell what is what...

I like the BFG arm, although I don\'t like the oversized targetters (>) Underslung beneath it :p I reckon a smaller set would look better.
(Also it looks as though the barrels need a little straightening)

The claw however looks NASTY! (In a good, Chaos way) And NOT something I would like to see reaching for ME anytime!

I\'ve been TRYING to see what the large metal head thing is in the centre of the beast, but a combination of slightly blurry photos and VERY blurry vision is impeding me! :p What is it...? (Looks as though it has horns) If this IS the head - it seems a bit too... flat? Maybe a bit of an articulated neck or something might help - but as I said - I can\'t really see what is IS :s

Looking great overall though - what did you use to do the taloned feet?

OK! Here it is, close to completion...just some smoothing out and some fine details to add. Gotta add some more bits and bobs to chaos-ify the cannon and just need to smooth/detail the greenstuff areas once they are dry....then it\'s on to the HORRENDOUS task of painting this behemoth! It\'s so much bigger than I even expected the sucker to be....it\'s so KRAZY!

this looks great.

I love the penitant engine demon host, i think it looks fabulous, esp after the work you\'ve done.

The claw mechanics look great too.

One thing i\'d do, is to Gstuff in the screw hole on the grey gun arm.

nice work though, doe sit get a nice base too?

Yar, base is coming, but after I finish the main assembly. I have no ideas atm as to what to do, so any thoughts are welcome!

Truth is, after I\'ve gotten this far through the big beast, I\'m having a bit of a creative brain fart moment....so any ideas are welcome! I need all the inspiration I can get.

Also, if any of you guys have some ideas on how I might change/improve the main cannon, I\'m all ears. I\'m sorta at odds with myself about whether I like it or not....

A demon head around the cannon would look very cool and chaosey, do you still have the one for the defilers cannon and will/could it be made to fit?

In respects to the actual gun arm, some chaos symbols would look cool, and help hide tha fact its from a toy. Also when you spray this beast for Undercoating it won\'t stand out as much. Do you still have some chain? Try a dry fit draped chain over it as that will also tie in with the rest.

Hope this helps although to be honest you are doing fantastic without suggestions!

Oh, and I hope he gets the paintjob he deserves, I wanna see this bad boy in a Golden Demon!;)
