I didnt know where else to post this, so im posting it here:

Im seeing a lot of stuff on ebay that does NOT look legit to me. Heres an example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/RH-Rackham-Conf...itu=UCC&otn=5&ps=63&clkid=1670136386932166263

Um... That looks like a copy to me. It says theyre selling it without the card, and without the original packaging. They're also selling Warhammer stuff- Last i checked, Games Workshop stuff was made in England.

Are these fakes?

I can't say for certain, but looking where the seller is, and what they're offering, I wouldn't be surprised. I bought a rackham wolfen prowler from them, and it was a cleaner cast than the 100% known legit rackham wolfens I got from Kathrynloch.

I think this guy is known for making recasts. There's a couple of threads about it over at Dragonpainting.

It still boggles my mind that this sort of thing makes anybody any money. But I guess if you make them in China, there's ~ 0% chance of being sued, and you can always sell them to cheap gamers with leaky ethics :p

Haha well it depends. Until CMON's recent announcement, where else were you going to get Rackham minis? I gladly paid this guy to get a Wolfen.

cheap gamers with leaky ethics :p

First off, not everybody has the skills to identify a recast or any other kind of rip-off. My wifes grandma still thinks she has gotten a real swiss gold watch for 20 EUR from this street vendor in rome....
Second, "leaky ethics"? really? Until recently, we where talking about a company which was totally out of buisness, with most casting implements believed to be destroyed. The only thing you might(?!) be harming is the secondary/collectors market. Personally, I couldn`t care less.

yes, those are recasts from china.
And the 'funny' thing is, that they are really good quality recasts (almost unable to tell the difference from the originals)

same here, it was the only way to get a hold of the clan-wolfen box for me. And as Conf was totally OOP I had no moral issues with it.

Now with the restart of the Conf minis... I don't know if I'd buy a recast again, depends wholly if I can wait until the missing 3 Conf figures are released (darkness elemental, Wolfen Vestals, Irix the Fury), right now with all those other mini-companies (sodapop, kingdom death, wyrd) I probably can wait.

I thought ebay suspended accounts for recieving too many negative feedbacks? This guy has a ton of them! Average of one per week in the last year, wow...

I looked at every negative comment from the past year. There were a few " item did not arrive" comments ( not surprising, it has to come from the other side of the planet, and thousands of total sales) and the rest were clusters of multiple feedbacks from individuals saying " their fakes!" and that the packaging wasn't there. To me, it seems like they must be store owners who were hoping to buy and resell, and didn't take the time to actually look at the listing. It's obvious they are copies, and it is clearly stated that they don't come with cards or packaging.

I'm not sure If I could take the 'moral highground' on an oop miniature that was impossible to find.

That is a far cry different than just saving a few bucks while the mini is still readily available.

I guess I'm not bothered in the slightest when a mini company puts out a 'not-whomever' version. I don't worry about someones IP being used.....

Moral Ambiguity at best.

I bought from this guy sometime last year, didnt really realise at the time he was a re-caster, but it was a crying shame that Rackham ditched the metal range. This guy merely provided what the public wanted - Rackham figures!!! The re-released range from Chern and co will now get my support as there are still many I would like to collect, but I am in no hurry to do so the recaster guy in all liklihood wont see much more business unless he brings his prices in line with retail, no more overpriced rarer figures like the Shanys one...

dudes, and dudettes:

(dude is nongender specific, btw)

but SERIOUSLY. Id like to tell you a little story, about me; I used to work for a Halloween Mask company in Oakland, California. Theyre out of business now. Why do you ask? Because of cheap copies. Theres another company i did product design for in Petalluma in the North Bay. They were called Willitts Designs. They were in business before i was even born. Theyre out of business too. Why do you ask? Same reason. For example, there was a line of collectible miniatures i was making the prototypes for, it was called 'Just the Right Shoe' by 'Raine'. You might have seen them some time ago in gift stores, they are these little miniature resin shoes. They put time, money, into research and development, quality control, marketing, etc. and what was happenning, was other companies overseas were copying the designs and flooding the market with lower quality copies whenever a new product line came out. They basically stole the whole thing right out from underneath them.

Arora Models, Polar Lights, etc. resin model Kits. The whole industry is gone now because of recasters.

Do you like gamming? Painting minis and collecting them?

Then i urge you not to buy fakes.

Seriously...

Jami, dont forget Rackham ditched the metal range, I have no idea if that recaster was doing it after that happened or before. If he was doing it afterwards, then not so bad. But your point is well made and I think everyone who loves Rackham and wants to see the whole range again back in business again will give Chern and partners their support rather than the recasters.

yeah i think the consensus is that people wouldn't buy from recasters if the models were actually being produced as they wouldn't want to harm the business

I just went through a lot of his stuff. This is atrocious! This is one of the reasons western economy isnt doing well. the chinese copy everything and make it as good as the original at half the price. This guy just skims profit from companies who designed and marketed these products. People loose their jobs over this kind of stuff, and he isnt even all that cheap.
