After lurking on the site for a while, I have decided it is time to get some feedback and tips on my painting. I have been painting for about 3 years now and paint for the table, I would like to improve my painting skills. And before anyone asks, no I am not a contractor, the moniker stuck after a friend quipt that I was lying to him and my place of business at the time was not a recording studio but rather a "contractor training center" and my employee ID, card 675, was really my code number. The name of the recording studio btw was The Hit Factory.....

On to the work in progress. This is the Anima Tactics figure Bellith.

I will eventually glaze the stockings with the same basecoat as the coat to give them a sheer look. Yes, I know I forgot to paint the hands, it was a lllllooooonnnnggggg day at work today.

I look foward to the advice from better painters than myself.

That looks like a very clean base coat, which is no small feat considering how small the anima tactics minis are. Time to start pushing contrast!

Now that I see the pictures up this size, I realize that the shadow which look okay irl need to be darkened. I am going to try using a dark blue or a purple. Question, if I seal the figure with gloss from an aresol, I use Krylon, can I remove the paint above it without harming the paint below the sealer or do i need to start again?

Did a little more work on Bellith today. I have the coat to where I am happy with it. I also finished with the skin tones. I think I have to do a little more work on the legs and face but I am happy with the rest of the skin tones. I started on the straps to her coat base coating them in The Army Painter Ash Grey.

Just wanted to let you know that I am paying attention to your painting. These anima tactics are so small that i can not really give you advice, but I am looking and will when I can.

Small is not the word for them!!!! I can usually paint a figure and use my optivisor maybe once or twice for the detail work, with these figures, the optivisor is on all the time. The sculpting is great though.

I know how small these are, and how unforgiving big pics are, but I'd recommend cleaning up the shadows where they spill onto your highlights. Other than that, I like the contrast so far!

Nice progress. Are those flames sculpted on her thighs or are they supposed to be garters and stockings?

I did some more work on Bellith today. Her boot were painted and the first highlights applied as well as cleaning up the transitions between the shadows and highlights on the back of her cloak. I also put another coat of the Ash Grey on the straps of her coat, I will start to shade and highlight them tomorrow. I also blocked in her hair and while I had the black out to paint her boots, I undercoated her sword for the metalic finish. I am not 100% happy with they way the fur shawl -I had to ask my sister what the fur on her shoulders was called- I like the colors and the shading but I feel like it is lacking a finishing highlight but I have gone through my paints several times and have not found a shade that I feel is correct. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Since I had the day off today, I managed to get in a good amount of work on Bellith today. I still need to do some touchups on the stockings, I didn't the get the sheer look I was hoping for, but I like the end result any way. Belith is almost done and it is time to start thinking about a base. She is going on a standard round gaming base as my group and I will use her during our games, and my original thought was to have her in a field of golden grass seeing as she is in an autumn color scheme, but after compteting her, I am thinking about a dungeon coridor with some reflected light from her flaming sword. Not sure how to get the dungeon floor done as it may been too late to cut off the metal under her shoes. I am very pleased with how the flames came out.

As soon as I finish with the touch ups, I will paint the skulls on the back of her cloak, not sure what color to paint them I was thinking polished bone or something along those lines, any one have a thought on that? I know the complementry color to red is green, but other than her eyes, want to keep her color scheme in the reds as much as I can.

When she is done, I wll create a voting page for her.

Here is a sneak preview of my next project. I have had her laying around for 3 years now, time to get some paint on her, starting soon.

She actually looks pretty good for a gaming piece and came together better than I thought. If you want sheer on her stockings start glazing with your flesh tone mixed with the stocking color. It wont take but a few coats to get a hint of it. I have a feeling that you will get enthralled with this painting thing. Keep at it sir and please let me know if the contract is ever issued on me.

I will try mxing the flesh tone into the stocking color and post the results a little later tonight. Thanks for the info.

Its funny where insperation will hit you. I was driving home from work today, half day more time for painting, brainstorming about a base for Bellith and came up with the idea of cutting a styrene disk to fit in the base and then scribing the dungeon floor tiles into it. I will post the results later.

So I am very happy with the way Bellith came out. I think I can say she is finished but I will take another look tomorrow but now I can start concentrating on finishing the base.

Bellith, painting and touchups finished for the moment.

So the base came out better than I had hoped for. The hole in the middle is from the screw for the dremel mandrel I used to true up the styrene insert. I scribed the styrene into a brick pattern free hand with a scribing tool then primed it black and painted it with as many diffrent shades of grey, no not 50 more like 6, as I could find in my paint collection. Once the paint was dry I washed it with a sepia toned wash from GW and then Nuln oil. The base rim is painted with Reaper Shadowed Stone.

I do have a skull to add to the base as soon as the figure is on. Once the figure and skull are placed, I will assess whether or not I need to add something to cover the hole in the middle. I think that the figure will hide the hole but if not, I will add a discarded rusty sword to cover it. Once the figure is in place, I will highlight the base as if her flames are lighting it up, I am thinking of drybrushing an orange/yellow or yellow for the highlight.

Thats it for tonight.

Looks good overall, but your fire is backwards - should be yellow at the base, not at the tips. Nit picky, I know . . . .

Okay so Bellith is done, I attached her to her base today. Here are some quick shots I took, I will have better photos tommorrow when I set up a proper shot with a better background than the blue plastic table cloth I use for taking ebay photos.

I started on the Dragon Turtle today. I need to mix up a lighter shade of Yellow green to do a final highlight to the underside then glaze the underside with either a glaze of the base, The Army Painter Necrotic Flesh, or GW Green Glaze not sure which, I am going to try both on a sheet of paper and see which I like better.
