Best fight scenes?

I\'ve been doing some research for my own movie quotes list (coming soon to a thread near you) and it bought to mind a few other things I\'d love to see members\' opinions on.

So first up, best fight scenes in a movie, in the following categories:
1, Bare-knuckle brawl
2, Swords, knives, sharp sticks
3, Guns, guns, guns
4, Through the blender

I had to add the last category since there are a good few fights which cross categories - all of them in some cases - in films such as Blade, Equilibrium, Showdown In Little Tokyo, The Matrix and many an Oriental martial-arts spectacular.

My mind is going blank on fight scenes at the momemt but I think the obvious choice is the Matrix lobby scene for 3) Guns, guns, and guns. For 2), I really think The Transporter had some really good scenes in it...other obvious choices would be Kill Bill Vol. 1 (take your pick on the scene), Braveheart, etc.

off the top of me head...

1 Bare Knuckle....The Quiet Man. John Wayne.

2. Swords, etc...Battle of Plennor Fields...Lord of the Rings

3. Guns...Opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan...incredible!

4. Blender...The ending fight scene in Matrix Two, when they end up on the semi truck...freak that was cool!

I saw this movie once, about WW2. An American and a Japanese soldier are stranded on this island beach. They confront each other - the Japanese with his officer\'s katana, the American with his combat knife and a big stick.

The Japanese imagines his attack: he charges, slashes at the American, who blocks his sword with the stick and fatally stabs him.

The American imagines HIS attack: his stick raised, he goes in with the knife. The Japanese\'s sword shatters the branch and slashes him to death.

So they decide not to fight.

Top that :)

They Live!\'s back alley brawl with Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Eight knees in the groin in less than 5 seconds, and it doesn\'t stop there. Tough to beat.

Guns: the boondock saints (scene where Willem Dafoe is re-enacting the shoot-out between the two brothers and Il Duce)

Best guns: Brotherhood. Leaves Saving Private Ryan and Blackhawk Down for dead.

Time Slip had some particularly good guns and sword action for the time too! Good old Sonny Cheeba!

I highly recommend a Balliwood film you may not have seen titled Asoka, starring Shah Rukh Khan.

The DVD is worthwhile for the stories about learning the ancient Indian martial art involved in the film.

It\'s not a Hollywood budget so the filming on the fight scenes could be better, but they are none the less awesome.

Bare fists/sort of:
There\'s a Jet Lee movie, I can\'t recall the title, where he fights a crowd of men and you\'ll never guess what he uses as a weapon: a small boy on the end of a rope!
