Another Night Goblin + Dwarf Army

too good?

You\'re really doing a fantastic job on those minis. I did the Skull Pass set a couple months ago, you really get a lot of minis for your money in that set!

I\'ve played a bit of warhammer, and my concern for your excellent figures is that they are too good! When you\'re gaming, minis get handled, chipped, dropped on the floor, lost, etc... Keep that in mind if you\'re painting to game!! :D

Heh thanks for the comment although im hoping GW\'s ardcoat varnish will protect them enough, unless someone else can recommend a spray on varnish which works well. Plus because they are plastics they won\'t be as damaged as much and i hardly play actually, i paint more so we will see. I still rush these models a tiny bit since i know they are for tabletop use.

Do NOT use \'ardcoat!(EDIT: by itself)

Its a gloss finish. Get a can of Testor\'s Dull Cote. Or even a can of matte varnish from GW if you have to, but don\'t murder them with just Gloss!!!

Excellent job, i also have these guys painted and they don´t look half as good as yours; I have to admit I am not a fan of the dwarf sculpts but the goblins really are great miniatures to paint.

Edited my above statement as I know there are those that use \'ardcoat with matte varnish. Its not my thing but if it works for them...

Well i\'ve heard Testor\'s Dull Cote mentioned before, although i\'ve never tried it, it seems highly recommended. Honestly i dont want a glossy finish so i think i\'ll avoid ardcoat for now, however, i did hear that ardcoat given a bit of time does leave a matt finish but the initial use of it is glossy..... I need to look into this stuff a bit more.

Well i\'ve finally completed another regiment of night goblins. The blue shields work well in contrast with my first night goblin regiment. I also tried for the first time in my life a rust effect on the standard bearer. Im not usually one to paint weathering effect on a model since i\'ve always liked sparkly clean armies but this turned out rather well i feel, i might try more weathering effects on other things, we shall see. But generally im very happy with my regiment, now onto more dwarves ! then maybe i might actually be able to play a game.

Well after being quite lazy here is another addition to my dwarves a thane. A nice model definately, although i found when i finished highlighting the cloak i was left with a glossy sheen to it. Maybe some matt varnish will help get rid of that effect.

I\'m in love with those gboblins, and the freehand on the dwarf cloak is fantastic. If I could paint my own minis like you paint these I might be able to see some. :D

Well heres another quick update, only done 3 miners out of the 8 so far. Going slow, just trying to motivate myself to paint more.

well i think im getting better with the metallics but ah well i think im going through one of those phases where im struggling to keep my concentration, maybe i need a break from all this painting.

Those are some great night goblins. Personally I do not like the new night goblin sculpts but your smooth painting give them some much needed life.

On dullcote

I just wanted to add another favorable testimonial to the Testors Dullcote fanbase. I have used it on all my minis now, for some time, and love it with a passion (I know, eewww!). It does an excellent job of protecting your minis and, as an added bonus, it helps to further reduce the visibility of any banding in blended colors. It also dulls down metallics enough that they are not obscenely bright. That being said, be aware of exactly that property of dullcote for your dwarf units. As with any liquid applied to your models, any surface inks will likely blur a bit if you are not cautious about applying an initial, thin coat of dullcote. I usually do several light coats, as opposed to few heavy ones. At any rate, the models look great, and they\'ve inspired me to get my butt back to painting regiments and units instead of just single models.
