Another Night Goblin + Dwarf Army

Well i\'ve always wanted some fantasy battle models, somehow i love the rank and file and nicely lined up regiments plus i wanted to start learning the rules too. What better way than to get the battle of skull pass boxed set GW are doing. I started painting the models and trying to think of colour schemes to brighten up the models etc because they arent exactly the most dynamic of models.

At the moment i\'ve only really done goblins as i try and work out a colour scheme for the dwarves.

here are some examples of the goblins, comments and criticisms are welcome. I thought i\'d get some constructive criticisms before i posted them on the site.

Will post up some dwarves when i finish this regiment. One nice thing i\'ve found about large regiments is that i do get better at painting the models the more i do, but it can get a little dull so i decided to paint a dwarf every other model now. Hence why doing 2 armies in tandem was a nice idea plus i love both the armies :)

Oh one last thing is that im painting small patterns on the hoods of the goblins but i\'ve only really got 4 different patterns atm, just wondering what others have tried which look cute on a goblin. The 4 patterns are flames, triangles, checkered and a single line at the moment. ???

They are beautifull. I love how smooth and crisp they are. I\'ve allways been a sucker for checkered patterns but the plames seem like a great touch as well.

Heres the leader of the regiment, i thought i\'d add some extra detail to this model. inspired by joe\'s mage i wanted to put some stars detail on the large blank areas of the model.

i quite like how he turned out, i always thought this model was so cool.

Thanks alot for the feed back :) but im still working on my NMM technique, i still find it quite difficult. With my dwarves im going for purely metallic paints i think and practicing using glazes. Only 5 more models to do with the gobbos and i will post a pic of the regiment :).

On the hero of that regiment, i didn\'t like how the flames looked around his hood with the red background so now he only has a red hood without extra detail on the trim. Keep it simple and clean seems to work well for me.

Another update, i finished the whole regiment now, it looks so cool i love staring at them. There\'s always some sort of satisfaction with completing a rank and file regiment :)

i posted on the site to see the votes and possibly comments of others, comments on here are very welcome too, criticisms too :drunk:http://www.coolminiornot.com/176935

Next on my work table will be trying to finish a regiment of dwarves and practice my metallic paint, painting technique using glazes and metal tones.

Well done! Lovely paintjob :) I was really glad and surprised to read about the pattern on the hoods, because I also painted my my gobbo\'s with some fancy pattern. I only used one kind though, which is a bit of a shame. You can see it here by the way => http://www.coolminiornot.com/111899

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the encouragement and votes, anyway i\'ve always said that i refuse to play with any models which are unpainted plus i don\'t play much so collecting and painting the models is the reward in itself. Next on the list, another regiment of 20 night goblins, 12 dwarf warriors and 8 miners, 3 fanatics and maybe i\'ll move onto doom diver and gyrocopter or something fancy. Might even try my hand at converting a bit since im not very good at that.

Oh i looked at your pattern for your goblin lavinia its nice but i was going to use something similar on my dwarves since that seems to be a very \"dwarfey\" patterning, but it works well on your goblin, nice paint job too :)

I agree, that pattern would be great in gold and red on dwarfs, and with your painting skill they would be fantastic. I rather like all of your patterns and was wondering if they were used in ranks to define seperate units how they would look.

Well the way i did the patterns was for every file i would have a specific pattern and then i just mixed them up, as for regiment distinguishing marks i was thinking maybe changing the colour of the moon on the shields per regiment to break up the colour etc. Not sure yet, what do you think?

As for my dwarves i decided to go for a blue and gold colour scheme with some hints of white and red. I\'ll post some stuff up tomorrow once i\'ve finished them.

Well i\'ve started work on some dwarves, heres a sneak peek at some of them.

i\'ve been experimenting with how to do the metal colour on them all and a paint scheme for the army. I\'ve settled on a blue/white and gold colour scheme which looks nice and bright. Once i fix my lights i will take some better pics.

One quibble i\'ve had is whether to paint the symbol in the shield gold or a different colour. I\'ve tried a couple different types and they all look ok to me, I\'ll post some pics of the different looks and get some opinions :)

They look fantastic so far. I like the blue, very ice\"ish\". Gives me the impression of snow color scheem or something.

yea it made them seem that way to me too. Maybe i\'ll put some snow on the base. Got any tips on snow effect for bases?

Well i finished the regiment of dwarves.

They look pretty good, im definately getting the hang of watering down the metallic paints better than i used to, a bit more practice and im sure i can get it to an acceptable standard. So next on the agenda is another 20 night goblins and 8 miners. Still the BFSP boxed is quite hard to make varied. Any comments are very welcome.

These are very well done mate. Seems you and I have very similar tastes in colors for dwarfs (the blue and white, very scottish of you) lol

For snow, I use woodland scenics snow effect mixed with a bit of elmers glue and a small amount of water.

Those dwarfs are so crisp and perfectly painted. I wish I could paint like you. The black outline around the base colors is perfect and the blends so smooth.

Thanks so much for the comment, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, although i have to say painting the bfsp boxed set is really fun all the models are nice and simple to do. Plus hive mate i wish i could sculpt like you lol, its all just practice and getting used to the tools of the trade i guess.

The colour scheme wasn\'t meant to be scottish actually, it was just my ignorant blunder of playing with colours that it kinda came out that way. Although i\'ve always assumed dwarves to have a sort of scottish accent, so hey its cool, but what i was really aiming for was a contrast of uniforms to the goblins i\'ve painted.

At the moment im working on another unit of 20 goblins and 8 miners, i also have a model of skarsnik and gobbla which i love and will probably end up including soon. Stay tuned ! and happy new year to all ^^

Well its 4/10ths of a regiment finished, heres a little sneak peek, with the blue moon on the shields as shown, i took this as a rush job with an old camera so bear in mind the flash is on.

But i love how the blue turned out, compared with the red regiment of last time the 2 compliment each other well, also as a first for me i finally did some sort of weathering/rush effect on a model. Since im the type who\'s always loved the squeeky clean look this turned out better than i had hoped for.
