A terrible day in Norway

Horrendous tragedy. Have read about this all night and I'm lost for words at the cruelty. Posing as a police officer, gathering the youth and children around and then starting to excecute them...

The biggest lead towards who did this is that they targeted the social democratic party of Norway. I hope it's not a right wing extremist group but rather a lone madman. In case of a rw group it would mean, regardless of which group, that it has became far more dangerous then most would have anticipated... and could mean more attacks and victims.

Horrible horrible news indeed, my condolenses to the norwegian people and everyone involved. This is even more scary since oslo is just a few miles from gothenburg, where i live, and considering i went to these camps! I´mhappy to hear, however, that it´s nationalism-related, and not islamistic violence, muslims are in a bad enough position in scandinavia allready.

Amen to that. And from a more egoistic point of view I'm kinda glad about that as well, it's comforting to some degree that it's not international terrorism but something local and hence slightly easier to deal with and less likely to spread to us.
I'm not saying that I don't feel sorry for each and every one involved and I really hope our Norwegian friends on here are all alive and well.

84 dead from the attack in Utöya they say now... And possibly two shooters, one is still at large...

And seven dead from the explosion in Oslo...

Norway is a country that I both respect and admire to a great extent. It's so incredibly terrible to see such a wonderful and peaceful nation engulfed in such tragedy.

I heard a quote from a spokesman saying he was glad it was internal terrorism rather than international terrorism as it meant Norway didn't have international enemies....

Given the scale of the attack...who the hell needs international enemies???

He's totally nuts, unquestionably, Especially given his " justifications" for the attack. The long term fallout will be completely, 100% the opposite of what he'd hoped to achive. He was angry about multiculturalism ruining the country, because it is a threat, then becomes a bigger threat than they could be. he illustrated how a native could be just as dangerous, if not more so, to norwegian citizens than an immigrant. He demonstrated that it is not the religion, but the madman that is the danger. He hated the labor party, but he has given them a helping hand; they will have sympathy, and whatever ideals he was advocating will be thoroughly rejected, if only for their association with this madman. He has become the prime example of why his beliefs are flawed, whether they are or not. He is a " fundamentalist" Christian, but has committed an unquestionably evil act. Fail, on all counts.

Geez, wiz, some reporter read the manifest, "It is mainly copied from other sources, but, there is a part that
worries me when he talks about the founding meeting and meeting 10 people from all over Europe".

I personally so hope that it's paranoia, and not 10 more subhuman scum that are around..

And, it's strange how close it hits, I live in Sweden, nowhere near norway, but have a guy running a local butchery, went in on Saturday to buy some meat and here is this big honking guy sitting with the radio on and crying.. turns out his daughter's friends were attending at the island, because they are members of the SSU (social democratic youth) in Sweden, and a bungle of them were killed...

She was supposed to attend but had gotten a flue, and stayed at home, but still, he said she knew this one couple that were together, just kids, they were found shot, but in a embrace..

She had called him 4 times in the morning, telling him about so-and-so is dead, they found "him" or "her" dead, etc..

Needless to say, I stuck around for a long while and just talked with him.. I could understand the near miss feeling he had.. Dont know how many of the people he knew personally... :O

I lived in the US during 9/11, and lost some close friends, and talk about getting a flash-back..

Sometimes it's possible to harden yourself against death, or even fully accept your own. Then something like this happens and just blows you away, i'm actually reeling from the scale and callousness of the whole thing. I'd joined a page on Facebook dedicated to a young lass who'd died in the massacre, when you hear the thanks of their family for the support people are showing, the pictures of this young'un and the support and kind words of the general public it's just incredibly humbling. Then to think there's 91 more stories, just like this one... It's just insane, man. I can't help but just feel genuinely saddened by it all.

According to sky news the maximum he can serve is 21 years due to Norwegian law???

If this is correct he will be out in his fifties! Words escape me :-(

^ That just goes to show how completely unprepared they were for anything like this. Nothing like this ever happens in Norway, so the maximum sentence didn't ever need to be more than that. The last time I remember anyone getting the maximum sentence was when Varg Vikernes got 21 years all the way back in 1993 for murder and the church arsons. There could be loopholes though... Could he get 21 years for every person killed?

I think their way of handling things have been pretty well thought out, it's not like they haven't had their fair share of murderers and rapists.

But then this thing happens and I really can't think of a punishment hard enough, I seldom feel vindictive but this makes my blood boil. What a pitiful excuse for a human being! It's easy to be for rehabilitation in an "objective sense" it's when it gets particular it gets harder. Of course I "knew" that.. I just feel very particular in this case.
