a good buy

i got a good buy on ebay the other day.

ive been looking for the old version of Teclis for a while now but it seems to be pretty popular...even damaged ones with the sword missing have been going for over £4 and as im pretty much broke at the moment (student life sucks) i couldnt afford that or got beaten to it on several occasions but i found one a few days ago that was marked as just high elf mage.
the end of the staff was snapped off but the piece was still there. i put on a bid and forgot about it, then realised a few hours later that id got it for 99p.
it was painted badly then painted over thickly with white...and someone had started to paint it again on top of the white which was speckled with some sort of nasty brown specks but good old nail polish remover and a bit of pinning work and its as good as new. i do love a good rescue case.

hes undercoated and on my long list of things to paint (after i finish my GD entry which is getting there slowly. i dont stand a chance but ill be happy if it makes it past first cut)

i was wondering what you guys consider some of your lucky finds and best buys?

About a month ago I started collecting snotlings for a goblin army. Found a seller online that sold the packs for $3.80 each. No picture, so I bought 3 thinking even if they were the old packs, that\'s a pretty good price.

Only to discover they were the NEW packs that run $15 each. So I got 3 for less than the price of one. Went back to get some more, and ALL of their GW stuff was taken down. I think they realized their mistake.

If I\'d known, I\'d have bought 5 instead of 3, as I need some more.

I\'m always trawling ebay and my own problem with typing properly actually paid dividends one day when I miss spelled Keggox (an old citadel dragon) as Keghox ... I got it for 99p ..... I now often miss spell things on purpose by the odd letter or so when searching and it\'s amazing what turns up..

Another good one was a risk bid of £2 . the models were on a tiny pic black models on a black desk and I literally couldn\'t make them out.. I was looking for Orky bits and they said Ork boarboyz..no amount nothing else...
When they turned up there were 5 super cyboars and 5 normal cyboars with riders...:drunk: all for £2.75 inc postage.

I once bought a huge pile of Rogue Trader era Space marines for a very low price. Then I sold a few minis I already had and got my money back.

Two original Land Raiders, two Predators, Dreadnought and a lot of other minis for free. I was pretty much like :bouncy::duh:lol

Got a box filled with old blister packs for free when a shop I worked for closed. I was able to pick all the best ones and ended up getting about 50 blisters :) :) Mostly old Bretonnians (Which I love), there were a couple metal High Elf bolthrowers, some old Space Wolf terminators, and a couple random Dark Eldar figs too. Nearly all of them are still unopened sitting in storage, waiting for the odd day that I will paint them or trade them.

A couple LGS would buy used figures for 1/4 retail price and sell them to other people for 1/2 retail price. Before I had a lot of commissions I would buy some of the decently built ones and paint them for eBay. I\'d usually get a few bucks over retail price. Wasn\'t the best money, but allowed me to improve skills, pay for new paints, and generate a few commissions.

My old room mate called me from the old game store we used to play Friday Night Magic in about 3 years ago and asked me what warhammer army i wanted. At this point i had never played a tabletop game and i had seen space marines at a few other stores and thought they looked cool so i asked him if they had any. He told me they were out of space marines but they had dark elves. After about an hour he comes home with these huge boxes and gives me one. Here the store suddenly closed and the owner told the kids that worked there to get rid of everything. I added up the stickers on the back of all the boxes and it was like $800 worth of dark elves. My room mate got a pretty much equal size box of dwarves and he also brought home every paint and brush there was. I still haven\'t touched the Dark elves but i have been using all those paints and brushes for the last year and a half since another friend got me into playing 40K. ( I finally got them space marines! )

Way way back GW made the mistake of telling all their independent retailers that any stock they didn\'t sell by a certain date they could return and get back what they payed for it (at least that\'s how I understood it). When return time came around GW was suddenly innundated with truly vast ammounts of blister packs. GW Sheffield, apparently was the only store in my particular region which had the storage space to cope with it so it got the lions share of stuff. GW then decided that, as it had so much stuff, it was going to sell it off. Cue a sale of epic proportions!

The manager in GW Sheffield realised that he hadn\'t a hope of selling 30 odd big boxes of blisters so he came up with a plan to sell them all off at £2 each. For about a week there were big cardboard boxes chock full of £2 blisters placed round the edges of the store with so much stuff that we ended up playing football with the ones that fell out. If you couldn\'t find anything you wanted specifically you just found it on the peg and \"whoops I knocked it into that box there, hey it\'s £2 now :D\"

In the end I spent £70 and got in the region of 6 dragon ogres, 12 minotaurs, 25 Dwarf Miners, 21 Bugmans Rangers, 20 metal Gor, the same amount of Ungor and assorted Dwarf artillery.

I\'ve since sold all the Dwarf stuff on, most the Beastman stuff is obsolete, the Minotaurs are horrible and the only things that are still good are the Dragon Ogres but it was still a good buy.

Yeah, great deal... now you\'re on the DEA\'s watch list.

A good deal I didn\'t realize at the time was the old Space Marine plastic set... I saved up for it as a teen (GW prices weren\'t as nuts back then) and enjoyed painting maybe 15 of them. So it was worth it then, and I could probably sell the remaining sprues now for the original price of the box plus inflation (since people seem to go apesh*t for the \"beaky\" helmets). But I won\'t, since they\'re irreplaceable :)

Also I ordered from an online store once and randomly got a mounted \"headless horseman\" mini for free. It was probably just an error, this site was not known for great service. Anyway the horse is big enough to mount a Chaos Marine, and super evil-looking - not a common subject.

Best GW deal i found was at a yard sale. I got most of my S.o.B. figures for $10 as the lady was selling off her son\'s \"old toys\". Then again the same lady sold me her \"broken\" digital camera for $10. Turns out she stuck the memory card in backwards and was getting an error so she figured it was broken. Ah nothing like a $200 camera, at the time, for $10.

A few good finds:

The Local GW store has an anual auction, at it a couple years back I got a 6th edition Warhammer Fantasy Boxed set for $20.

At an Antiques Market in London I bought a $2 shoe box filled with Orc and Empire sprues, had maybe 12 figures assembled off them but the rest was still there.

On Cheapcycle my wife and I bought two $5 tables, while there to pick them up the seller had a tuperware bin of minis, on one of the tables, I asked about them, she noted they were her a$$ ex boyfriends and I could have them. It was filled with a really nice needle file set, two packs of basing material (one sand one flock) and about 20 reaper minis all primed black.

Lately I have been collecting old video game systems and games off of Kijiji, in two weeks I now have a SNES, a Genesis, an Atari 7800, and about 40 games between them for under $30. I\'m looking to get a ColecoVision next.
