VIC9 Skater Dude
I'm finally posting some old stuff. This guy was done in a rush for the VIC 9 (Visions in Color) I took so long posting him here because I realized after VIC9 that in my rush I had made a big mistake. I needed to fix it, and it took a while with other projects getting in the way. Anyway, my big mistake was highlighting him like you would any mini, then mounting him sideways. I realized instead of his underside being in shadow, his right side should be shadowed and his left side bright. So, I finally got around to inking the right side and highlighting the left. The pose struck me as impossible to convert until I realized he was in a skater crouch. (I worked on a photography exhibit on skaters in a museum once) So, cut off the tails and weapons (necessitating a greenstuff left hand) and you've got Skater by Verner Klocke. The emblem on his chest is from a brand of clothing popular in the skater crowd. The shoes are red converse high tops. The pants are army cargos. Oh, I also had to file his chest smooth and cut the little jars off. The half-pipe is made from a plastic tube juice container painted to look like ply-wood. The skateboard is plasticard with wheels made from a round toothpick. I include the bottom pic to dramatize how the shading is side-lit. Questions, comments and snide remarks are welcome.
