Mushnik Space Marine

Mushniks are my personal chapter (though I don't play I only paint) and they are my fighting group in the SCA so the armor is painted in the medieval heraldry of the group. Check out my standard bearer for a somewhat better idea of what is painted on the armor. This is a typical marine trooper. He's made from the old box set and posed only slightly differently from the obvious intent of the molders: he's pointing up a bit to shoot at a big monster or a flying enemy. The painting on right shoulder and left leg is freehand and actually done with a pretty crappy brush. The gun is basically painted black and drybrushed boltgun metal with some high points painted over in mithryl silver. I'd like to hear how to do better guns. As always, all comments are welcome.

I like that color sheme, which you gave your Mushnik, but especially in this modell the blue comes out far better than the yellow. Maybe youn should start from a darker yellow tone and blend it to a shining yellow instead to a white. Maybe I'm impressed by the freehand details, but the boring looking metal parts, like the gun, are destroying my overall feeling of the mini.

This one doesn't have the great detail like your standard bearer. The only detail I've noticed is the lion, which seems to be spotty at places, such as the chest area. I think the ground is a little too uniform (better than an unpainted base), but you can do much more with a few larger pebbles (big rocks for him) throw in here and there. For some reason, I think this guy is blueberry and lemon flavored.
