Golden Joy Horse Christmas Ornament

This is the second in the series of Christmas horse ornaments I am doing for my wife. Two more to come. I'm doing them in unnatural colors. For this one I chose metalics but with a realistic color pattern. The bulk of the body is white with shading done in gray. The gold parts are originally painted with GW Tin Bitz highlighted with a mix of Vallejo Gold and GW Burnished gold. the tail, mane and "knees" were left deliberately darker as this is based on a horse that was brown, black and white. For the hooves I painted them first Vallejo Salmon Pink then glazed over them with Vallejo gold. The eyes are green, which is an unnatural color but looks good on the gold. The pupils are horizontal slits like real horse eyes. Before you say it's too glossy, I covered it in 3-4 coats of glossy varnish because my wife likes shiny things. The horse stands roughly 3 inches tall. I hope you enjoy something out of the ordinary.

This is an awesome idea and one I'm going to steal, if that's ok! I really love the "old gold" antiquey look of the metallics. I've seen the other horses you did too. Are they all Breyer models? And did it come with the eyelet or did you have to add it yourself?

I agree with Cerri. The white needs more depth. But this is a VERY eye catching ornament, I'm sure. The placement of the brown with the pose is stunning. Your wife is getting spoiled by your fantasic horse figures, I bet.

I don't think its too glossy; it's a Christmas ornament, for crying out loud. I think you need a little more shading on the white. The head is beautiful, wonderful shading.
