WOTC Dwarf

This dwarf has more detail on it than any mini I had done up to this point. I still hadn't figured out the intricacies of colouring and shading, but I had more or less figured out the base/wash/drybrush routine. I still hadn't learned the importance of high-contrast shading on minis, as you can see from his rope. I was pretty happy with the way his face turned out, and his armour is interesting too, although I would do it completely differently if I were to do it again. I was experimenting with shading using metallics, which is a good beginner technique to make more interesting metal objects. You'll notice that the cutting part of the blade of the axe is more polished-looking than the rest of it, which looks more dirty and worn, which you'd expect if it gets sharpened often. It adds some depth to the weapon without having to get into NMM, and can be used to add rust, blood, or other nifty effects. Not visible is the little line of white I always used to put along the blade's edge, which makes metallic weapons look more sharp. These days I struggle to learn NMM, so I'm trying to cut back on my metallics, which honestly look best on GW minis for some reason.
