What a nice figure!
Not a bad effort a painting it....but a couple of points. Highlighting is the real issue here. You need to be a little more adventurous with the highlights...the current ones dont quite stand out enough. Look at the base...it's crying out for a little yellow/green highlighting, and his hat needs a little something too. You don't have to go much lighter in colour (nice overall choice by the way) ..just differentiate the depth a little more.
The book looks good though...hard to see..but it does look a little pristine. Try a slightly darker colour in the depths of his skin tone...I bet this would give you the results you are lokking for.
