Natural colors, I likes the way the colors jive together... I like his face and this was before I learned something about NMM please leave comments so I can grow up to be a good little painter girl!!!
OK, here's some comments I see. First, the shading and highlighting is very sharp and abrupt in some places but very nice in others. The epaulets came out particularly well, but the cloak is very jarring and unconvincing. I like your attempts with shading in the hair, particularly making the deeper hair a much darker color---I think that's very realistic and believable. Your NMM came out subtly but nicely on the dagger thrust out in front, less so but still OK on the sword. If I imagine it's a cloudy day, it works fine for me. The tunic seems to need some more shading. Remember that highlights and shading won't just appear on the folds, but rather will be present everywhere the light source shines on stretched or taut fabric as the tunic is supposed to be. I really like the leaf designs and think that's perhaps the strongest point of the miniature as currently painted. The face seems too...simple in its shading. You seem to have only 2 colors, perhaps 3, and it just doesn't look as realistic. In particular, my brain has this desire to view the darker shading below the zygomatic arch as 5-o'clock shadow rather than as shading. The ear is good. Ears are hard, particularly when they aren't sculpted very well. The base is very nice, with a few rocks for focal interest and a nice deep green bed of grass. It complements, rather than detracts from, the figure. Work on the blade handles, as they seem too "flat". Finally, try thinning your paints down a little more. Most of the miniature looks pretty good, but the hair and the face look a bit pasty, as if the paint was too thick and dried with that nasty grainy appearance.
