Vintage Eldar Farseer

I painted this mini circa 1994, and if I remember correctly, he's actually made of lead. My real "risky" attempts at the time involved trying to make the rune in his hand look glowing, and adding the freehand texture to the scabbard of the sword. I think they look decent, but not earth shattering. If I was doing him now, he'd have runes up and down his robes, but back then, after getting the shading done one the robes, I was loathe to cover up any of it with more painting. I personally have to give the mini a bit more than a 7, but not a full 8. While I think pleasing enough, the overall scheme is a little simple and I think more detailing would be required to raise the mini to the next level. Despite what I've said, I'm still going to give myself an 8 to get the voting off to the right start.

Thanks everyone for the good words. My color choice was largely a rebellion against the GW style at the time - they were squarely in the middle of their "red" phase.

Jim, sometimes simple is best. This is a very nice paint job. His robes look like very rich shimmering silk. The effect is great. IMHO too many painters have a tendancy to over do it. I like this and was going to give it a 9, but the more I look the more I want to give it a 10. He look very regal and appropriately elegant for an Eldar Farseer. I actually never appreciated this mini until now, well done.
