Hi all,

I saw few XV-25 with stealth effect and I decided to paint one myself. As you can see it's standard 4ed color schem and team leader with reversed color inspired by 4ed tau codex cover.

Rate and comment what do you like and what you don't.

so, what can be done better and how?

To do it right,.. shouldn't it be an empty base, with maybe just a footprint or two in the sand?? After all,.. they are "stealth suits"

I think that with the ground effect covering the details, it seems to me that the sand is consuming them rather than a stealth masking effect.

If you refer to the "Predator" films, they make the camouflage almost perfect. And, to me, it's a visual, not a tactile effect.

Stil, I do like the blue 'line of activation' effect, that's cool!! And well executed!

Cheers

I thought about that but i lack experience in casting. All you need is make mold and use transparent material to make cast

Good point. I saw some stealth effect achieved only by painting but I didn't like it. So i decided to use sand so it would look like it blend with surroundings but you are right sand grains are to big and it don't look as I planned, I should use more powder like sand, nevertheless I think is not that bad either.

Could shave off some of the mini where sand is planned to go, so the grains don't then bulk out the mini beneath.
Finer grain sand than used on the based might be interesting in suggesting the illusion isn't perfect.

As an effect, I do like it. Simple and effective. Though I think more could be made of that line where the effect and mini meet. More of a glow with sparkling style jagged line, or the opposite, the line being an undulating stripe where the two visual surfaces blend together rather than abruptly butt against each other.

Perhaps using powdered pigments instead of chunky sand would have worked better? If you can match the pigment colour to the base, then that would give a hint of texture, without obscuring the detail of the model itself.

If you want to try this technique again look for Unscented Talcum powder, much finer.
DON'T be tempted to use scented as it used oils in the scent which buggers up the paint.

Thanks for all comments, definitely I try this effect once more but with some kind of powder or pigment or both. You never know what you get unless you try.
