WWI Film List

I like learning more about WWI, especially in the form of movies.

It's nice to see the trenches, uniforms and vehicles in motion, even if war is grim and depressing. (It's definitely inspiring me to make my RW figures nice and dirty.)

Here are some that I've been watching recently:

• A Very Long Engagement (One of my favorites.)
• The Trench (Yep, trenches.)
• Red Baron (German one)
• Aces High (British air war)
• War Horse (Trenches and Calvary)
• Beneath Hill 60 (Tunnelers!)
• Lawrence of Arabia (Classic.)

Films I want to see:

• Gallipoli
• The Blue Max
• All Quiet on the Western Front
• Flyboys

Please feel free to add other WWI films that might be of interest to fans of RW. (I've just barely started watching them, myself.)

Great idea to list these. I'd also recommend seeing Paths of Glory. The beginning of All Quiet on the Western Front, where the teacher is telling all his young students to go fight for the nations glory, is really powerful. That one's a must see.

I have it in my library, but have not watched it yet, but the Lost Battalion gets pretty good reviews. From IMDB: Fact-based war drama about an American battalion of over 500 men which gets trapped behind enemy lines in the Argonne Forest in October 1918 France during the closing weeks of World War I.

Dawn Patrol with Errol Flynn was quite good.

If its All quiet on the Western front make sure it is the original and not the John Boy Walton remake.

For the Air War try and get to see the silent classic "Wings" considering when it was made the air scenes are brilliant. Also you can try Dawn Patrol.

Not really WW1 as such but Sargeant York is always a good watch - Go on Ted what about a sharpshooting hillbillly for the Allies?

Another one to try and get hold of is the Austrlian TV mini series "Anzacs" it is an excellent watch.

I'll second the recommendation for Beneath Hill 60. Very unusual topic handled deftly.

Flyboys is marginally better than Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor.
