wraithguard wip - crackle glaze wraithbone

hi, I couldn\'t resist getting some crackle glaze after reading the space marine wip on this board, and although I cannot hope to emulate the quality of that artist\'s work, I think it does kind of make quite good weathered wraithbone! =)

Trying to work out how I can make the gems pop out more now, and the armour plates separate..the rear shot shows that a brown ink between armour plates is *not* the answer;!

C&c welcome.

I lightly sprayed a matt brown over a very thin white undercoat, then I brushed on crackle glaze to the armour plates I wanted to be cracked before coming back and spraying the whole mini bleached bone.

I sprayed bone because the crackle instructions suggested you had to be careful to apply the second colour in \" one or two brushstrokes\".

Looking at the mini, I think the white, brown, bbone results in too thick a coat, though it may be down to my as yet very early airbrush skills. I find I am still groping around for the right paint consistency.

Bigger pic below. Suggestions for how to make the gems stand out? Would a black outline be too harsh? Also, the armour plates seem blended together because of the bbone spray - how can I separate them nicely?

for the gems, take them from black to white, there is a good tutorial on gems here on CMON.

thats pretty good, with a little tinkering, you can get a spot on effect there. what make crackle stuff did you use?

got some from \"fascinating finishes\", from their eBay store.

I\'m highlighting the edges of the armour up to white now and inking around the gems to make them pop. I\'ll post a snap when it\'s all done. Definitely something worth experimenting with this crackle glaze.

Bigger pics, and more contrast would be effective on this mini. Gems really pop if you blackline them and have high contrast around the white spot in the corners. I love painting high contrast gems, they add a lot to any model.

The pics in the vote link are larger and have been balanced a little. I\'ve worked out for some reason photobucket was shrinking images I uploaded (e.g. the one above) so I just upload them directly now at 600 pixels wide straight to the CMON gallery. Not sure where I\'ll put images I want to link to in WIP threads .. I really dont know why photobucket is doing it. lol
