Would you agree with this?

Wouldn't normally do this but I feel multiple opinions are in order. A member voted and commented (which they are entitled to do) and it seems they have a disliking for how I've painted my deathshroud. The exact words were "Well putting a base coat and submerging the hole figure in ink, or army painter don't deserve a 10, sry guys. Look up rusto, picca, jar, banshee and much more of them...that's painting"

So what I'm asking is, does it really look like I've dipped it in ink or army painter?

I understand I may be rising to the bait of a particularly brave troll but I take pride in my work and will defend it.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Cheers guys :)

yes and no.
it doesn't look like it was simply basecoat+dip. I can see highlights, some colored shadows, but at the same time he's right that this is not what I'd give a 10.
From painting it looks very close to the GW style with the shades and edge highlights.

That I can agree with...i deliberately went dark with it and I steered closer to GW scheme because it's likely going to end up in one of their stores display cabinets.

Would take any gallery comments with a pinch of salt to be honest. If you put somethign up in the CMON gallery expect to get polarising votes.

The commenter has never posted any of his own minis and only made 4 comments...so I would not be to concerned on his opinions.

Maxx pretty much hit the nail on the head...keep painting, keep posting, take the 10's as well as the 6's and ignore snidey comments from people who do not post their own minis for comparison.

true, but then again ANY comment I get on my minis I value more than the score.
I only notice the score when because of a FLS (frendly Local Sniper) the average goes to 4 or below.

I agree with the constructive, same old paint and dip is a joke with the guys I hang out with. Your work is not this, I understand how hurtful the post is I can see how much work you have done and it's a great step. good highlights and positioning. I think painting Buddha still have their videos on you tube as well as the warhammer and all sorts of others to look at.

what I do see are a few tied marks where the wash has dried. to prevent this either paint another coat over the main parts of the mini and leave it in the cracks and joints. (the gw videos show this)

Or work with controlled washes and and another clean damp brush to tidy any extra wash up.

spend some time looking at the wip logs here people are friendly and helpful here.

great photography too btw that's half the battle!

Almost Perftec! Aw, crap.
That looks like solid work to me with some subtle techniques in there that the camera isn't translating. Turn off the scores and just paint for the joy of it :)

I love the work on it you've done. Both the dark coloring looks realistic to me and the detailing looks awesome!

Well, firstly you should remember that this is the internet. Even when you think that you have found a nice place (forum or whatnot) where people respect each others etc. there will always be a couple of trolls and other w*nkers as well. Some folks just feel empowered, when they have a change to be rude to other the people.

Like being said; that may not be a solid 10 or something like that, but it looks actually rather nice piece. Good job. It most certainly doesn't look that you just dipped that to an ink. And even if you would have dipped it to an ink, then what. You are entitled to paint whatever methods you like the best. Whatever works and gives you the kind of result you like. There is not just one way to paint. Helpful criticism is a good thing and can make you try harder, but some just want to be hurtful. Just ignore those lame comments and don't take it too seriously. You will feel much better if you don't

But don't let this kind of stuff discourage you. Just keep painting.

I'd take the comment for what it is; A vindictive rhetoric from no one that really matters. Water off a ducks back mate, you just keep up the good work.

and looks really well so i will encorage you to dont dip since you are already having really good shadows. For me dip is for massive paiting like zombicide .

Trolls, lurkers and snipers, sounds like world of warcraft lol. If all it took to create works of art, (like yours), was to dip it in magic ink we would all be scoring 10's in the gallery. Pay no heed your work's solid :)

Take no heed to those kind of comments :) looking good, the base really complements the model well. I really wouldn't say there's no effort involved.

Nice work mate. You'll always find the knockers, usually they are knockers because they have their own insecurities
