World Eaters ( pro advice needed )

Ok I just bought my core force of world eater space marines, I have a Juggy With Lord/Hero, 8 Berzerkers, and 8 Bloodletters.

I really want to do the best job I can on these guys, as I love the models and plan to use these guys as my primary army ( they will be built up more later ) .

I am having a hard time trying to figure out how I should prime these guys, I really want to keep with the FLUFF, in other words...not gold or bright red, I want to keep a dark red blended up light, and use brazen brass ( sorry no NMM on these guys ), would it be best to prime them black ? white ? grey ?

What would be some good base colors ? I am thinking maybe a black undercoat with scab red as the base, then built up with a number of layers of different reds, then the brass, I am just a little lost on how to shade the brass.

I was thinking maybe brass, then a brown ink wash, after that possibly brass and burnished gold mixed.

Any help would be nice.

Thanx

Not sure I\'m a \"pro\" yet, but I would go black undercoat. You can get some great reds going from black through red to orange.

Well I would go with the black undercoat. As for shading the Brass, I would start with tinbits, then dwarf bronze, highlighted with a little shining gold. Then a thin (very thin) chesnut wash to redden it up a little, and a final highlight with burnished gold:flip::bouncy:

My new favorite color is \"Black Red\" from Vallejo\'s Model Color line. It\'s a very nice dark-dark red, and it\'s a better shade than I could get by mixing black and red...maybe you could give that a try?

I most certainly am not a pro but I have painted some Khorne stuf before. I used GW colours and black undercoat. Dark flesh, scab red, red gore, RGand Blood red mix, blood red and as I dont like the bright red Khornate minis I finished with a nice chestnut ink I think. Maybe Brown Ink? One or the other anyway. I did the first stage of gold before inking the whole model then going over the the gold again. The Ink makes the armour nice and glossy and it should make the figs come out a nice deep red.
Not sure about the vallejo colours yet but I like the sound of the black red I must give that a go soon.

Well I find that GW reds are hard to put on black and white primer. So what I do is but with primer and then put a basecoat of pink. then put red your red over that, you get brighter red that way.

Yea Frenchkid

I have found that also, I tested some scab red out on a black painted sprue to see how it went on, it streaks alot....

I am thinking, maybe 2 watery coats of scab red, for a strong semi dark base color, then perhaps a layer of scab red mixed with red gore.

Then of course a red gore mix of blood red and maybe a final few layers of blood red and orange.

I imagine after this many layers that the paint SHOULD cover up over the black.

Thanks for all the input guys !

Black for dark red I geuss. Do a few thin dark red coats then highlight up to orange then do red ink washes to keep the look smooth. I mix the red ink with black for dark reds, or else it doesn\'t really shade or blend the colours together. For brass do some Dwarf Bronze then hightlight with Brazen Brass (I forgot which is lighter , it might be the other way around). Then do chesnut ink washes. And highlight with the lighter colour.
