Work lights?

I was wondering if anyone knows that jumping lamp on the pixar logo? I was hoping to get one or two as my work light (the room light is orange-y colored) and the extendable, swivel-neck of the lamp would make it great to position the light as needed. I know one of my cousins used to have one which even clamped onto the table so it took up just about 2 inches of desk space which was awesome!

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find them anymore from the local stores and I don't know what they're called to do a google/amazon search. Any help appreciated.

Lucky break you have access to argos then eh. :) Great lamps them, I settled on a pair of them after going mad with several different lighting set ups.

The ones I have look like them, but the base is removable with a clamp offered as an option. Found the lamps a bit heavy for the clamp - they'd work, the extended arms exert a weight that coupled with a nudge can make a mockery of the clamp's clampiness.

I had thought I got my pair in Wilkinsons, but just checked their site and found nowt so maybe I did pick 'em up from Argos. Fortunate I happened upon them, wherever it happened.

Excellent light from the fluoro' bulbs, they're the significant aspect to ensure you get. Much better light than from other bulbs, be they eco/daylight or whatever. Just gotta make sure the lamps themselves suit the available space, and budget (some similar lamps out there for £60-£80  ). Dare say there's more compact (less weight) fluoro' lamps with clamps. Fluorescent lamps are what to look at though.

Ah, maybe I picked mine up from them then. My memory ain't what it was. It used to to be a finger-painting of Napolean riding a unicycle.

You'd think Argos would include that it comes with the option of base or clamp. Especially listing an erroneous note about dimmer information, when it just has a binary on/off switch.

Damn good value considering the price of similar lamps on the market.

Personally I use a magnifying lamp that I got from Maplins. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=47980

It clamps on to the desk and is pretty good for positioning. The light that it produces is plenty bright enough and is a white light, energy efficient too. I don't use the magnifier that is in built as it hurts my eyes and I find it gets in the way of my brush when I am painting whilst looking through the lens.

Picked a pair up for 3 quid from local charity shop with clamps, got lucky though I'm sure! Have another one from Argos also, swapped all the bulbs out to daylight ones.

I've had a magnifying lamp too and had the same problem with it in the way of the brush and massive eye strain, good light though.

I got the argos lamp and it is very good! Thanks for the help!

What is a "daylight" bulb? Isn't the white light that comes with the argos lamp enough?

Prior to the energy saving bulb, daylight bulbs were pricey but regular looking bulbs albeit made with a blued glass. Many of the new energy saving bulbs list "daylight" amongst their attributes and while its cleaner than the regular old bulbs yellow light it just doesn't provide enough good light.
I learnt that to my cost, literally. Replacing the rooms celing bulbs with 'em, even adding various lamps around the room with 'em wasn't enough. But just a pair of those fluoro' lamps, one either side, that did the trick.

Ah, I guess I'm alright then. The floro that came with the lamp emits white light, not the yellow/orange ones from most "energy saving" bulbs.

i use the argos one as well
argos sell this lamp in 2 colours, make sure you get the black one, the silver lamp has the yellower bulb the black the white bulb.

My response is month too late but I hope it's still helpful.

This is what I use:

I actually use two of them, one with a daylight bulb and the other one with a cool white bulb. I do most of my painting at night and I've always had a problem with the colors not appearing the same during the daytime. My current set-up seems to solve that.

With this lamp I also have the option of going up to 60w bulbs.

I use the lamp from Maplin that NelsonMac linked to. Part of the mechanism for holding the lamp in place sheared off after a few months & it's now held together with the aid of clothes pegs & the magnifier is useless but I like the light & ways it can be positioned (generally just below eye-level, angled to illuminate the mini but not get in the way of the brush or shine directly into my eyes). I also have a 100w+ daylight energy-saver in a normal spot lamp that I bounce off the ceiling just to raise the general level of light in my living room from dingy to "oooh, I could read a book in here now" :D

Cheers, B.
