I´m painting a unit of dwarf crossbowmen. I want the standard bearer to carry a wooden banner pole but I´m tired of the uni-brown-colored poles that seem to be so common. How do I make wood grain texture on it? Could you link me to some tuts?
I\'ve had problems with wood in the past, too. But this article on bone helps out a bit.. Basically you\'re trying to do it with brown colors and not a strong highlight of white. You also need to put in the knots that are found in all types of wood. Poles are ven harder to do since it\'s a small, rounded space.
In citadel speak. Base mix of black and dark flesh. Highlights mixed initially with more dark flesh and them add bubonic brown (stupid names!). Ok, after your base coat use the highlight shades to paint on your wood grain. The lighter the highlight, the thinner the line you paint! Take a look at my Crusader orcs to see what I mean.
