i play an all elf army and it rerally works, every model is armed with a bow.

youve got some really fast troop choices in the cavalry and the flying cav, all with bows of course. these guys kick war machine crew butt. add in some cool magic items for your characters (bows and arrows) and start blasting away, there is nothing scarier than s4 -1 armour arrows that hit on 3+.

How about when it has the killing blow rule at short range? (maybe I\'m wrong but I was pretty sure thats what the waywatchers lethal shot rule did.... or maybe I\'m just dreaming again lol)

\"How about when it has the killing blow rule at short range?\"

theres only one huge problem with that, numbers at 24 points a piece the waywatchers arent that popular a choice. plus it doesnt work on anything larger than a chaos warrior.
and you need 6s to get that, wich pretty much is what you need to wound anything with them.

Waywatchers are NOT bad :) it would appear that our good friend here has not yet found use for them but that doesn\'t make them bad.

As far as not liking treemen, dryads and treekin goes, it isn\'t a problem. However if your regular oponents know of this it makes their army selection easier, expect to see many chariots etc :) xx

Waywatchers aren\'t bad at all, you just have to use them right. Anyway, if they are your favourite models, you should get them anyway, no matter how good they are.

i never said that they were bad, i just said that they arent all that good that people say they are. sure they can mess upp small units and lonesome characters, but for the price of one of those guys you get two glade guards.
1 s3 shot with killing blow that hits on a what, 2+?
or 2 s4 -1 armour save shots that hit on 3+?
in fantasy armour is everything, and only bretonnia, chaos and the empire has lots of it (they arent that vulnerable to archery at all but a lower armour save is better than a normal armour save) most armies dont have high armour values at all.

killing blow only happens on 6s, to get a six you theoretically need 6 waywatchers.
thats 12 glade guards.

no waywatchers arent all that people make them out to be (against ogres and other gig guys they royally suck ass). i use a small unit in my army to get those pesky magicians and small fast cav units.

What is it you don\'t like about forest creatures?

I\'ve been trying to convince some adventurous WoodElf player to make Desert elves. Instead of treemen you have cactusmen! etc. etc.

but if i was to go for desert elves, which colours would i choose for them, the only other army than wood elves that i have been looking into are ogres, models are cool, but have heard that playing them is a disaster, they are rated below average army and are weak and hard to win games with.

The problem with Ogres is that they look like a sledgehammer army and people play them that way a lot of the time. Used right they\'re every bit as nasty as they sound on paper.

Magic is their only weakness, and you can get Magic Resistance magic items (multiple times) for characters and their units IIRC.

Any way, if you wanted to do \"Desert Elves\" then just use a bunch of muted browns. Graveyard Earth and Kommando Khaki are great colors, Sorched Brown and Bestial Brown would work, and maybe even Bubonic for some leather parts. If you wanted to paint the leaves on the models like dry/dead then do Catachan Green hilighted with Rotting Flesh mixed in.

Desert camo type is good, especially for the ones that are supposed to scout. For flavor though, you could take a moroccan theme. War Dancers could be whirling dervishes. You could model them on the bright patterns of the Beduins.

Desert Oasis elves-sound cool, preatty much like Lorens d\'Araby tree (palm) hugging elves:D

For desert you should go on browns like Vomit brown and greens like Goblin green.

To represent scouts and waywatchers you could simply cut their legs off and put them in the sand (as if they were hiding under the sand waiting for the enemies to fall in their ambush).
Be sure to have a desert oasis for your additional wood.

On the efectivness question: entirely elven armies do work quite well (better than entirely tree spirit armies, since WE are anyway better suited for shooting and running rather than fighting).
