Hey Guys

Taking a break from my KoS...decided to paint this little guy to improve my painting skills. Started on painting the pants for now and after a few hours ended up like so. Decided to go for a leather style pants.

One of my major set backs are contrast....so let me know if I'm headed into the right direction, in addition to what I can do to make it better. If pics are not showing all to well, let me know and I'll get my lazy bum up to take a better one ;P

Thanks

Its in the first pic - I think it might go all the way from his shoulder down to his toes. You'll regret it if you don't get rid of it before continuing ;)

Hello scipunk.

I am new to the forum, but I hope, I am allowed to answer. Please forgive my bad english.

The throusers looks very rough, what matches a Skaven-cloths very good. But the Cloak's color is much to near to the color of the throusers. There is no seperation between those two parts, so they look like a big mass. I am sorry, but I would suggest another color for a good color contrast.

Greetings Taggi.

Taggi, has it correct about the cloak colour should be different, as for your original question you need more in contrast I would think you could highlight up a few more tones at least, you have the darkess but that is only good if you have some light to contast.
http://www.coolminiornot.com/241188 look at this one even though his cloak is black the top highlight is white.
http://www.coolminiornot.com/168128 this ones trousers are very dark but again the top highlight is near white.

Hope this make sense to you it is somthing I am trying to perfect ATM as I can never push the highlight far enough. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Cheers James

I paint my thumb.
If your going for a leathery look, you need to push the highlights a lot more, as leather is a more reflecting surface. Though it's a skaven don't hesitate to use more colors to keep things interesting, ie for the cape you could get some intesting effect by using glazes on the highlighted parts.

Thanks every one for the helpful suggestions. I will definitely consider in changing the cape up.

@Tagamoga: First of all welcome to the forum, I hope that you will enjoy yourself here. Secondly, By ALL means your are more than welcomed to leave any comment here or any other forum. Just because your new, does not mean you can't post ;) (PS: I saw your two posted miniatures in your gallery...and it blew me away...hope to see more of your work here :))

Now a question to all...should I keep the back of the cape the same (with a tad more highlights and only brighten up the inside cloak...or just change it up all together?

Thanks Again

Hello scipunk.

Thank you for your welcome and compliment. I will try to add some minies, when they got ready.

At you question:
I would suggest, that you change the color and work more for the highlight. I dont know why, but I think it looks great, when the cloak would be in a color like "scab red". For shadows you could use a mixture of "Scab red" and "chaos black" (1:1) and the color for the highlight could end in "blood red". So the cloak would be still dark and the color would be nearly related to the throusers, but there would be a good contrast. But this is only a suggestion.

Greetings, Taggi

Alright been a while (been busy at the restaurant), but started to work on the little guy again. And again noticed some mold lines....so after some bravering (if thats even a word) to file the cape and removing some of the paint and mold lines, I went on in brightening the inner cape. That's how much I was able to get done this weekend. Hopefully more work can be done on his outer cape next week.

Again let me know if I am going in the right direction in what I hope I would be able to accomplish at the end with this piece.

Thanks
