Great models, Love the BA, had to be done!

So This is going to be my first completed squad in nearly 10 years! Stopped for a long time and wanted to start up again just for fun. Any constructive criticism and advice welcome.

Washing the red ended up blotchy so then went to Machrite red for clean it up and tide any smudges from other colours to the red;

Next comes blood red. Looking a bit orange in the pics, less in real life, but still intend to tone it down.

Are you using GW reds there? I have such a hard time getting them to lay evenly. Care to post what colors you used?

Yeah, just simple machrite red (middle few pics) followed straight up with blood red (last 2 pics). Both watered down to lay evenly. The blood red still needs another coat at least.

I have never really had a huge problem with red. I started with Blood Angels so i don't know, maybe I just got used to it.

Ok, so I am still layering the red...But to my eye it looks streaky, am I going crazy? Because it's getting frustrating now haha.

Any ideas/suggestions or criticism appreciated!

The red looks nice. I just think you shade a bit more you metals, and I would have painted the swords like power swords with thunder but it's my personal opinion.

I think the shade of the metals will be fine once they are highlighted. That will come once I am happy with the red.

Also, to highlight the red you can use a flesh colour or with beige, it gives a good result and it doesn't look pink.

*sigh* This isn't a hit on your painting, but anytime I see red BAs with green laurels, I can't help but thinking that they should all be dancing around to "Jingle Bell Rock."

hahaha, well tis the season. I just chose green because i cant think of what other colour laurels should be. Also green is complimentary to red. If anyone has suggestions on something they think works i will try on my sternguards. I quite like the effect myself so far, just gotta get the red even!

No no no, they look great, and on the color wheel they are complimentary colors. It's probably just the time of year that I'm thinking that. As far as I can tell, the red looks even as it is. Put some highlights on that and a nice Baal Red wash to even it out and I think you'll be good to go.

try a thin red glaze, that should help bring it all together

I definately need some kind of miracle for them haha. Just need more time.

How would I glaze? Not really done it before without knowing I was doing it.

They look better than the pic lets on I promise :p, its just from my phone cam

Ok, more done

Added another layer or red (which I think I am giving up on now) and them stuck together, now i am getting to the final stages, highlights and general tidy up. These be some better pics before I start highlighting without the annoying flash on my phone.

Anyone suggest any improvements por favor!
