Wip 1st sculpt (bust)

So this is my first major project so far I like the way it\'s coming out. I have more smoothing and detail to work then I\"ll probably bake it again and see where I\"m at. The thing over his shoulder is (will be) the hilt of a sword in a scabard.

I\'m thinking scale mail for the armor or else leather armor with lots of straps and buckles. The leather is probably the easier of the 2 but I think the scale might look better.

How large is it?

looks good overall, especially for a first one.

For some criticism. The detailing is a bit \"soft\" and shapeless. Try making harder angles, if you find it hard with super sculpy you can try other putties. Also the nose is not angular to the face, making the placement of the mouth seem slightly wierd... or if it is the other way around.

sorry about the late response but with some thing criticism is useless without suggestions.

as averlorn said, good overall (a thousand times better than my first). you proportions seem a little out. have a look at these pics to help:

Thanks for the response guys. The bust is about 3 inches tall.

I can see what you mean about the nose. It\'s not so much that it\'s crooked I think as that the right (as viewed) side was a bit more sunken in. I tried to add to it to make it more balanced I\'ll put some pics together today.

I was going for a slightly scowling look but it sorta came out as pouting I think. I can\'t do too much altering to the face now as I baked it because I got to a point where everytime I started working on something it would push the other parts out of alignment. I might try to take my dremel tool to it after the final bake to sharpen up some details. (at which point I\'ll probably ruin it all  )

The mouth was a bit more defined on one side than the other so I tried to extend it.

for facial expressions, try a google image search. there are tons there. this one is cartoony and ott but handy as it\'s so simple and you can see easily the distinguishing features of each emotion:

also if you have no internet easily accessible(and there\'s no one watching!) pull faces in the mirror

how\'s the face look now? tried to get more character into it. got rid of the sword haven\'t done much to the rest. I made scale armor but it was a bit too sloppy so I wiped it out and will try again later.
