Ok guys, I hear alot about different model makes etc.

To be honest the only game systems I have seen is the GW ones.

Could anyone tell me about the other game systems, how good they are, and which game system goes with which model makes etc..

Also which model makes are good to get, for price quaility etc and lastly where is a good place for me to get them, I live in the Newcastle in the UK, but didnt mind using the internet as long as postage is not too much.

Last thing, mainly for the guys who live close to where I live, where do you find people to play these other game systems, only people I know that play wargames do history based ones or GW games.

thanks for reading and explaining this to me, think I need a change from GW stuff, fancy painting and playing something different.

cheers

It depends on what you are looking for - and what you play from GW -

Are you looking to go to a more historical type system - there are several - with historical type figures? If so I would go with Foundry out of England -

They have several different lines and are available on the web -

Chris, get yourself down to Travelling Man in Newcastle, its just a bit further down than GW, past Forbidden Planet. At the back of the store they have loads of Rackham, WarMachine, D&D and G.U.R.P. products. I would suggest getting the Confrontation starter set from Rackham, its ony £36 and you get loads of minis, plus a full rulebook.

Rackham\'s Confrontation and Rag\'narok games and Privateer Press\'s Warmachine and Hordes games are probably the biggest contenders to GW when it comes to fantasy games. I\'m not a gamer myself so I can\'t give you any personal recommendations.

I have heard mostly good things about the Warmachine game system.

About Confrontation and Rag\'narok I\'ve heard more mixed opinions, but there\'s a lot of people who like these games, not to mention the miniatures. Check out http://www.conf-federation.org.uk for more info on the games and the level of activity in the UK.

I picked up a Confrontation Starter Set from Ebay (brand new) for £23 including p&p from Tritex I think. Also, if you\'re looking for good minis rather than particular game, I got some excellent Reaper minis recently from Orcsnest.com they\'re sheap, quick and the customer service is spot-on. Unfortunately, I stopped gaming years ago so can\'t offer any advice on that front.

Chris, as Matty says Traveling Man is the best place in the Toon for alternate minis.
They also (last time I wa there) had a list of gamers looking for opponents.

As to playing, well Warmachine is the only one I\'ve tried other than GW and if you can master GW\'s Games Warmachine is a Doddle. (pun intended)
Very similar mechanics, but simpler and smoother. Great for a short 30 min game as a starter and probably more fun.

Confrontation really needs a few games with someone who knows what they are doing and is willing to help out. I\'ve read the rules in the bliuster pack a few times and am still none the wiser.

Warmachine is easy to pick up but not in a aimed at kids way. All you need is the basic set £25 which gives you about 250pts to get started and play a basic game. The game itself is fast and full on.

Ive played a few Confrontation games i dont i didnt really like it. I found it too be slow and lengthy.

Warmachine is like old school GW. Powerful units and characters with special rules, and quite a number of the minis look great.

Racham do some very nice, very detailed minis but i\'m told the game suffers due to translation issues.

As for finding opponents, i\'ve never been any good at that myself o_O
