We got to thinking it was so sad that only the heroes in this game got names and the rest were just anonymous cannon fooder. Solution we used little tags on the bases to name everyone. It is strange how, when all these figures are nearly identical that one model seems blessed with extraordinary aim or just plaiin luck. In our case Private Alf Tupper (older UK players might guess where the name came from) who in three missions successfully slaughtered anyone foolish enough to get in range and walked away from numerous MG attacks.
Funny once you name them , it is somehow harder to throw your little warriors into the jaws of death.
In my games, we have German Jon. German Jon was air-flown into the THICK of battle, and got a successful attack on a rocket cycle. However, that gave away his position. He then went on to survive SEVEN 3-dice attacks and two 1-die against him and continue on to the next round, where he destroyed a 65 pounder and survived another four 3-dice attacks before finally dying to a rocket cycle. He earned the name "German Jon" and is forever a figure of mass success in our games.
Austrian Austin, however, was an attempt at having another great German Jon run. However... he missed is first attack and was immediately killed. We tried the same thing in the next game and he met with similar failure. He earned the "Austrian Austin" tag (after the player who was trying so hard to GJ) and is forever the name given to units who fail that hard.
We tried to do a British Brian or American Adam but it just isn't the same. German Jon has done so well on his own.

We also have Neil McPatrick, the 65 Pounder who was rapid assaulted into battle, in the thick of it, and murdered 7 units before finally being hit. Then he had EVERY card in the book used on him: Stiff Upper Lip, Discretion is the better part..., and the one where he gets back into the fight. It was SO BAD! He would not die. And every time, he got right back into the fight.
I named the "main" allied character after him in my FF. He was just so useful that game.
