hello,
i dont post much, but today i have a question for anyone interested.

i painted a dwarf the other day and have been playing with photo taking and photoshop.

below are 2 links to the same model but different photos and photoshop.
which do you prefer?

number 1 (my original \"normal\" photo style and photoshopping)
http://www.coolminiornot.com/112621

number 2 ( my more experimental photo taking)
http://www.coolminiornot.com/112910

the real model in real life looks between the 2 pictures as far as vibrancy goes, but its not so simple, the armor looks more correct on one photo the skin on another etc.

i prefer the first (probably because it is close to the format that i have settled on). bigger would be better though.

the lighting in picture two is far better.
nice paint job.

try to keep the overall photo quite basic as it can end up looking messy.

i was told that this was the reason one of my models was about .5-1 point lower than it should be.

(also i am crap with cameras)

some good advice for photography.

Hi Chris: \'Sfunny you should ask, I\'ve been working on an article about taking photos of mini\'s. Just at the rough notes stage A.T.M.. Basically, the bast way to start is to make what is called a scoop in Photo terms, A long slow curve of coloured background. (I use A3 Foam from the Hobbycraft store up by B&Q). Set your mini up about one third of the horizontal distance of this scoop. Keep your camera about 10-12 inches away (30 cms) and on Macro setting. Place your light source directly above the camera and pointing straight at the mini. Now take a series of shots and select the best in terms of colour bias. Now I\'m assuming that you have either Photoshop or Paint-shop pro, but in either one you\'ll need to crop the image and then set the picture size to be about 600 pixcels wide. (This is the max size for CMON) It\'s best to find the menu to \"Save for Web\" as this removes all the Camera info out of the image file. I end up posting he mini and then testing it to see if it is too big. If it is I generally end up triming the image size down to 400-450 Pixcels.

this was some advice from dragonsreach, it was very helpfull and allowed me to take photos that looked decent. thanks again for that mike. :)
