earlier this evening on 26 votes my mini was scoring 7.7 now ive just checked my account and its now had 3 extra votes and its down to 7.3, now i dont think my mini was as good to be a 7.7 but i was wondering what happened to cause my mini to drop .4 with just 3 extra votes, does this happen a lot, if any ones interested this is the link to the mini in question

That sure looks like a solid 8 to me, and that\'s what I gave it. Not sure why it dropped so much, but it should even out over time.

I think it\'s quite good.

And yes, under 50 votes, it doesn\'t take a whole lot of lower votes to bring you down quickly. One of my more recent pieces (27916) is fluctuating from 6.4 to 6.8 with almost every vote. :)

I can\'t imagine someone voting lower than 7... maybe some chaos-haters vote a 6, but that\' unlikely :)

Nice paint job!

You\'ll always find someone who gives everything \'1\' or something really low just to try and upset the applecart. Maybe you were nobbled by such a tosser!?

Nuts, forgot to vote on your mini! Page back here I come!

:D

Exactly right! :D You\'ve got a very nice mini there and that\'s what counts. Votes will fluctuate, sometimes wildly, until they get to around fifty or so. By the time it gets to 100 votes, you\'ve got a good solid idea of what the concensus is. I wooldn\'t worry to much about percentage points anyways. Anything in the 7 range puts you well above average.

Keep up the good work

Corvus your view of human nature is admirable, but...

Corvus, you are assuming everyone who votes is your age and mentality...

Scenario: Some kids at school are into 40K. One of them discovers this site and goes into school next day and says to his mate who plays Space Marines, \"Ha! found this website last night where they rate how cool minis are, I found loads of your rotten Space Marines and gave them all 1 out of 10. Yah boo sucks!\" What do you think kid (b) will do the next day?

Sorry folks, you might think I am paranoid but I am not.

Statistically such shenanigans will even themselves out over time. IMO anything below 100 votes is subject to statistical anomalies.

BTW calabdark, I thought you did an excellent job and I agree with the \'solid 8\' comment.

on a similar vein ther are some minis sold today reporting 10 on THE POPUP ebay blurb sheet. at a casual glance they didn\'t look to be anywhere near that so i went to vote on one.

i felt real bad but i voted a 7. and then lo the average was 7.3 ???

whats up with that?

well i went and had a look and i think i know what the prob is.

at first glace it is a typical first time peice. the color choice is very bold and \"unabbadon\" people just voting quick might just 5 it out of hand. some sillier people might give it a 1.
at second glance the finish of the metals in particular are high quality showing some skill. and some people like original color schemes. voting at 8 or more for it.

the problem is your mini will sharply polarize opinion making your vote really a percentage score between the likes and the hates.

i\'m not making any critique myself just to say i can see why your score might fluctuate (only 50 votes) so much. but it will settle and no amout of tens and ones will move it.

im open to any critique ,im not super sensitive and i want to improve, and the best way to do that is by gaining feedback, if someone thinks my mini is bad and scores its low ive no problem with that although when thats the case is would be nice to know why , after all i believe the addage \"we learn more from our mistakes than we do our succesess\". i think i know where the areas i need to improve are but someone could see something else i need to improve that i havent thought of, or in either case can come up with ideas and methods i havent tried yet, and then with each mini i paint i can apply or practice these areas.

farseerlum, in regards to your first comment im not sure i understand this correctly, in the context it seems to be your implying i personally have some minis on today that ive voted 10 on, if thats the case it cant be my minis because i havent posted any minis for nearly 2 weeks and ive never given an initial vote of 10 on any minis ive posted

no it wasn\'t your post!

it was another member that was selling on ebay i just thought it could be a related glitch.
i dont think anyone voted 10 on this particular mini but the system gave it an average score of 10. which is way wrong, no one has a perfect ten on this site.

sorry if you thought i was implieing any misconduct. i never even thought that. in hindsight i can see what your other post meant.
again sorry no insult intended.

as for getting feed back. i\'m with you! input is always helpful. i can\'t give you any advice on technique though. my work is around you level i think. i do think the abaddon colors are a bit garish. but that is purely subjective and others will love it.

i found where the problem was in my post and rectified it. simple possesive pronoun trouble.
again sorry, no slight intended.

no probs , t thought i was probably misenterprating what you were saying(not overly sensitive but a little paranoid), i can see why people might think he was garish, the main reason i chose the colour scheme was because i thought gold and purple looked nice together i didnt really paint him with abbadon in mind

same issue...

calabdark, I had a similar issue recently. I always thought that the scoring system has a certain fail-safe mechanism against punks who deliberately vote irresponsibly, a sort of lower limit and upper limit valve trap.

At that time, I had something like 16 votes and the next 2 votes dropped my scoring by 0.5 or something!

Well, if a valve trap system is in place, weight will be assigned to each score as compared to the history of the entire score and will therefore cause lesser impact if the score deviates beyond a certain range percentage of the score from the standard mean of the score for that mini.

Anyways, it doesn\'t matter. lol
