ICE - no doubt there... Still love my old MERP books, growing to love my HARP books more and more, still have to ...erm... evolve(??)... to RM though... heard rumours of a 3rd ed. comming up (or is it 4th? not sure here) - sweet :)
Would have liked to ad more votes though, both for World of Darkness, D20 variant PHB\'s (Arcana Unearthed for instance) and Other (mainly The Riddle of Steel - cool system :) )

Gah! Come on! More votes for old school D&D!

It had enough numbers to keep the \"power gamer\" type happy and not too many to get in the way of true roleplaying IMHO. Admittedly i used a blend of AD&D and Old School (Elves could be thieves for example) but if i had to choose one or the other, id dig my set of red rulebooks out any day :)

I always loved Traveler, the version in the little books. Now I like Dragon Storm, easy rules and I can step up as GM with an evenings worth of adventuring in the time it take the players to put their characters together :)

For role playing - d20

For wargaming - Reaper\'s RAGE system (Warlord and CAV 2.0)

Other systems I have played:
Warhammer
Old D&D (THACK0 anyone?)
Traveler (2 nights to make a character and 30 minutes to kill him.)
Shadowrun
CBT (classic Battle Tech)
Clix

face it, I\'m a game slut.

What is \"Old School\" D&D?

Original D&D?
or
AD&D before they had the notion of \"edition\" sometimes called 1st Ed AD&D

I\'ve been playing since AD&D. There are advantages to each system, but I think that each edition is an improvement. That won\'t stop me from having fun in playing a 1st Ed AD&D game at Gen Con this week, but it\'s been so long since I had to do subtraction in a role playing game. :D And all those table lookups.

At least I won\'t have to worry about what class to chose when I level up.

Tzor, I think it generally refers to any version of D&D where the armor class went down instead of up (ala d20 or 3.0+)
The system basicly didn\'t change after Greyhawk suppliment in OD&D.

That depends on how you define \"the system.\" Non weapon combat in 1st Ed was so complex that I know some DM\'s who used to joke about their house rule of \"YOU FAIL.\" Then there was the 1st Ed rule about different weapons having different to hit bonuses based on the armor of the opponent. And the 1st Ed rule on the weapon you wielded having an influence on the d6 initative dice.

And then there was 1st Ed Psionics, so bad it caused the early 2nd Ed not to have any Psionics whatsoever.

There was a lt of differences between 1st ed 2nd edition AD&D. Whole campaign worlds were destroyed and rebuilt to account for the changes.

I\'d have to vote revised rules for WoD, mostly because I think it gives players and game masters a good batch of tools to help roleplaying. I like the D20 system quite a bit, but IMO it tends to lend itself to being more toward the side of combat simulator. I\'ve had this debate many times with people in my gaming group, but that\'s what I think. ^_^

I also have a soft spot for the old Warhammer Fantasy RPG rules. I haven\'t had a chance to really check out the new revision yet, so I can\'t tell you what I think of that.

Oh...and there\'s something about Legend of the Five Rings that I like too. Besides the fact that I\'m Asian, I mean. :D

Its kind of difficult to seperate rules from background. My leaning is towards simple and intuitive, but it depends upon how you play. As a teenager, I played so much MERP I had literally memorised all the tables and could run a game without the book!

Dragonlance was the first game I played so thats always a favourite, but I love Paranoia, a game where you were literally encouraged to throw all the rules out the window, especially the ones about physics and thermodynamics and the like.

I can\'t pick a single system I like best. I mostly play d20 these days, but I also like Hero System, and GURPS, and RuneQuest\'s percentage system. I\'ve never tried a system I didn\'t like, although I like some a bit more than others.

Tough call.
I voted WoD, cause IMHO it\'s the system that gives the most freedom to RP, completely ignoring dice-rolling, whilst still having the option of using stats and dice as \"crutches\".

D20/D&D I found very \"customer-friendly\" in terms of flexibility, as well as being a very good system for beginners, but a bit too \"number-crunchy\" even with experienced players. As has been stated, kinda like a pure combat system (Inquisitor, anyone? :D)

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay as number one. Mainly due to the world and the career system though there are some flaws.

If I was going on rules system along I would say I.C.E. more Merps then Rolemaster.

I personally as a DM hate White Wolf. The dice pools system annoyed the hell out of me. I tend to think in percentages, so assigning a difficulty I would think I want the players to have about a 70% chance of accomplishing this. I just couldn\'t figure out what that meant in D10 dice pools. Hated Shadowrun even more with D6 dicepools.

A couple odd systems I love are Dream Park and Feng Shui. The reason for this is they are very very light on mechanics and rules and make for a very fast paced game where the rules don\'t get in the way of the action.

I saw Hackmaster today at the lgs, and for some reason I really want to try it....

Hackmaster can be a lot of fun. It can be as loony as KoDT or as serious as any other RPG, but that just depends on the players and the GM. Plenty of old school 1st Edition D&D feel to it, plenty of tables and charts and such and obscure rules to haggle and argue over.
