What is Tescos?

Cake or Death?
I\'ve heard the name a couple times around here, and in the news lately, but what is Tescos? Is it a supermarket or something we don\'t have here in the states?

TESCO\'s is a very large supermarket chain, dealing mostly in food stuffs but the really big stores will also do cloths, CD\'s, DVD\'s and other household goods as well as sports equipment and have now branched into the web sales thing as well.

I guess you could liken them to Walmart in the States.
Over here Walmart bought into ASDA a few years ago and so between ASDA and Tesco\'s between them own the biggest share of the UK Supermarket chain.

I used to work for them when I was a student. According to the training sessions, Tesco is made up from the name of the founder\'s wife: Tessa Cohen.

You can buy everything at Tesco. Pick up a pint of milk and some life insurance, a packet of biscuits, a wide screen telly, a mobile phone contract and a personal loan to pay for it all all in one go.

We have the dubious distinction here in Coventry of having the biggest Tesco store in the world ever...

It doesn\'t sell anything that other stores don\'t it just has more of everything

Also never buy anything form Tesco Direct catalogue. They have the worst customer service I\'ve ever encountered and I\'ve encountered some very bad customer service. You have been warned!

Bunch of unavoidable wan*ers... hired thugs to burn down a beautiful (and few hundred year old) listed tree that was in the way of their Slough superstore.

that would be a sore point then chief:beer:

They built one here locally on what everyone classed as wasteland. as a kid growing up and an adult still interested in walking around picking up and looking under rocks , dipping net\'s in ponds and the like I can attest to the fact they built the shop and it\'s car park right over one of the few places in a big city where there were newts toads frogs woodpeckers owls and oodles more life....

I\'m not a treehugger but it breaks my heart I won\'t be able to take my little one there as he grows up.....

According to wikipedia (which I only trust sometimes)...

\"Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT) is an American public corporation that runs a chain of large, discount department stores. It is the world\'s largest public corporation by revenue, according to the 2008 Fortune Global 500.[4] Founded by Sam Walton in 1962, it was incorporated on October 31, 1969, and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972. It is the largest private employer in the world and the fourth largest utility or commercial employer, trailing the British National Health Service, and the Indian Railways. Wal-Mart is the largest grocery retailer in the United States, with an estimated 20% of the retail grocery and consumables business, as well as the largest toy seller in the U.S. It also owns and operates the North American company, Sam\'s Club.\"

Yeah I went to Tescos in Glasgow and they were OBSESSED with pringles. There were little displays of pringles in every aisle and they even devoted an entire wall to spelling \"Tescos\" in pringle cans. Are all Tescos like this?
